Mar 9 - Wk 1 - Day 6 - seeking true knowledge of self

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Mass readings for today’s Mass again help us in our preparation for Total Consecration. In the First Reading from Hosea we hear:

…We shall say no more, 'Our god,'
> to the work of our hands;
for in you the orphan finds compassion."

I will heal their defection, says the LORD,
> I will love them freely;
for my wrath is turned away from them…

In seeking true knowledge of ourselves we need to admit that we have sinned and often the false “god” we have created is our “self” — then God heals us. Jesus Who is our Way, our Truth, and our Life, points us in the right direction in today’s Gospel:

…One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him,
“Which is the first of all the commandments?”
Jesus replied, “The first is this:
Hear, O Israel!
The Lord our God is Lord alone!
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your mind,
and with all your strength.
The second is this:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no other commandment greater than these…”

Only the God Who created us can reveal to us our true selves, both our sins and the holiness to which He calls us. Let us continue to pray to the Holy Spirit sent to bring us into all Truth, and to our Mother that she may interceded for us.

And as said in each Eucharist:

“By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.”

Dear Vico,

Thanks for your reply, and for posting those beautiful words said in each Eucharist. Those words used to be said out loud in the Roman Rite but now they are said silently, and so few pay attention using a missal or have those words memorized from their youth.

How beautiful that we are enabled to “come to share in the Divinity of Christ, who humbled Himself to share in our humanity”! What a wonderful Mystery is God’s Love for us! May He transform us as He transforms bread and wine into Himself!
