Anyone going? Thinking about going? Know anyone going? šŸ™‚ My church is sending our high school youth group. If I could go, I would. I looked into it but I don’t think I’ll be able too (work issues). I’m still trying a few last ditch efforts though before I give up on it. Anyone ever been to a past March? I’d love to hear about how it went for you. šŸ™‚

I live in the DC metro area and went to the march last year for the first time. It was an amazing experience! Before the march there was a Mass at the MCI center. At the end of Mass, Cardinal McCarrick asked all the seminarians to stand up. It was wonderful to see so many priests in waiting stand! Then he ask people to stand if they were even just think about a vocation. Many more stood up. It was really uplifting.

I also got to meet Tony Melendez and hear him play the guitar and sing. Tony is really an amazing guy! He was born without arms. He plays the guitar with his toes. He has played at World Youth Day and for pope JPII.

It made me realize how huge a loss it would have been if Tony’s mother had decided to abort him, knowing that he was to be born without arms!

How can we judge the quality of life? All life is precious and must be protected.

Last year’s march really opened my eyes to the great gift of life and how we must protect it.

Our parish, Annunciation of the Mother of God BC Church, in Homer Glen, Il. always sends a group. This year is the largest group yet. Several teens, the head of Ill. Right to Life who is a member of our parish, and a couple of others are going. Father consecrated them for the trip. Let’s all support them with our prayers.

I have never attended the March itself, but I have been to the Vigil Mass for the March at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception a few times

It is impressive seeing National Shrine filled to capacity (not just the pews, but every available place to even stand) with people dedicated to preserving life.

Just one tip, if you want a seat you have to get there VERY early and take some friends to help you save your seat if you have to get up.

I’m an usher there and it is always funny seeing the people that expect to get a seat that show up right before the Mass when there are 6,000 people in a church that holds 2500 in the pews in the upper church…

I would love to go, but won’t be able to due to school. I hope you’ll be able to go. šŸ™‚

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I guess I’m going to have to try for next year, but I’ll be there ā€œin spiritā€ šŸ™‚ I don’t really have anyone to go with because my husband has to work and my friends aren’t really interested in that sort of thing. They’re pro-life, just not into marches I guess. I didn’t know they were going to be broadcasting it on EWTN, so thanks for that PLAL. I’ll definetly check in on that. I wish the church had a group for adults to go too! Lol! Although it’s awesome that they have the high school kids go. What a great experience for them - I wish they had done it a few years back when I was in high school. Oh well. Next year šŸ‘

To anyone going, I hope you have a really blessed experience and you’ll be in my prayers Monday.

[Tragedy: U.S. passes 47 million mark for abortions in 2005 (http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=22488)

January 21, 2006
Baptist Press

In what can only be described as tragic, the United States likely experienced its 47 millionth legal abortion at some point in 2005, more than three decades after the Supreme Court issued its infamous 1973 Roe. v. Wade decision legalizing the killing of the unborn.

The statistic is based on data since 1973 gathered by the pro-choice Guttmacher Institute and on estimates by the National Right to Life Committee. In the first full year of abortion legalization nationwide (1974), Guttmacher counted 898,600 abortions. That number reached a peak of 1,608,600 in 1990, before falling to 1,293,000 in 2002 . . . Press release

BURBANK, Calif. – When pro-life activists gather in Washington, D.C., on January 23rd for the 33rd March for Life this year, there will be a new face on stage – the face of a Hollywood filmmaker.

Jonathan Flora, an award-winning producer with Disney’s Buena Vista Home Entertainment, has been invited by March for Life founder Nellie Gray to share the stage with, among others, Bob and Mary Schindler–the parents of Terri Schiavo–and Father Frank Pavone of Priests For Life. The invitation follows Flora’s independent creation of A Distant Thunder, the first motion picture to address partial-birth abortion . . . [Click for more]

I’m in much the same boat, I cannot go, but will be praying all day and have streaming video on in the corner of my computer here at work. I’d thought the same, ā€œhave to try for next year,ā€ but then realized that next year, God willing, there won’t be a march because abortion will be well on it’s way to being illegal in the US. Perhaps there will even be a solemn march of thanksgiving and memorial to those who have died. Meanwhile, I’ll keep going to the mini marches in front of the local abortion mill at least monthly and will keep up the prayers.

Fr. Bryan and Holy Transfiguration BC of Mentor on the Lake, OH is there too.
I would have been there today, but my chest conjestion due to a Bad Cold from last week, kept me away this year. (I even missed our local Rtght to Life march last weekend too)! 😦
I’ll have to make next year my first year.

WIll there be a place online to get the copy of Fr. Nesbit’s prayer that opened the National Right to Life Rally? I broke down and cried when I heard it. It’s a pray that we need to mass copy and pray ourselves.

As for those here who keep saying they can’t make the National March 9like me), I’m sure you know of local and state marches going on at different times throughout the year. Try to make those marches. We usually have 2 or 3 a year here.

Whoah, i just got back, i have never been more moved in my life. I will talk more about my great adventure in a bit!

If you got any picture or know of anyone who does, have the pictures posted on this thread.

I’m currently recovering from my trip to DC for the March for Life. It was the most amazing experience! I’ve never seen so many priests in one place in my entire life!! The rally and Mass at the MCI center was incredible! It really made an impression on my 12 yr. old daughter. It was a hard trip, a pilgrimage really, but it was worth every minute and every sacrifice. We want to go back every year until Roe is overturned and we can focus on state fights.

I have to add that I have a whole new understanding of being herded like cattle. šŸ˜‰

Edwin, I saw the best poster at the march. It said ByzanTeens on the top and had the most beautiful icon of the visitation showing Jesus and John in the wombs of their mothers. Just Beautiful!! I don’t suppose they were from your area?

IF you remember anything else about the group, they may have been from our church.
We did have a good number of people (from our small parish) to go to the March.
If it wasn’t for this cold that I’m recovering from (congested chest) You would have seen me there.
I know that Fr. Bryan has been looking for an icon of the Visitation that you described. If he DID, they were carrying it. Fr. Bryan was one of the many priests who were at the Sunday evening Vespers prayer vigil.
