Tafan, since everyone seems to “not be able to read” your answers, may I suggest that the problem quite possibly lies with your answers?
Yes, thats why I tried to clarify. And my request for arguments on my points was truly sincere. It is an interesting and pertinent question to anyone who has had a abortion discussion with jews.

God bless

I’m sorry, but I still can’t see how calling abortion a holocaust does any damage to the pro-life movement, or should cause Jews any insult. I don’t see your point, nor do I understand your intent. You seem to be talking in circles and you’re not making much sense to me.

I agree it should not cause an insult to the jews (I stated that explicitly also), but if you ever have a discussion with a jew about abortion and use the holocaust word, you have just changed the subject inadvertently. That is my experience anyway.

I don’t think I am talking in circles. I am asking what is the best stategy for pro-lifers to use in this regard, that is all. But I guess when the statements " Abortion certainly qualifies" and “I am undecided” are examples of my answers being unclear, I guess there is a problem with our communications.

I certainly do not want us to start understating the horrors of abortion as we engage society on the issue. I just think it maybe we should consider using words that do not bring the debat to a halt with certain parties. That is all.

Okay, I understand what you mean now. But why would the use of the word “holocaust” put a halt to the debate with Jews? I would think they would be able to sympathize more than anyone with the plight of the unborn since it is a similar predicament. I think I would sympathize if I was Jewish.

if you have not done so yet, you might want to read the book by
Dr. Nathanson, entitled The Silent Scream. he was an abortionist
for many yrs and was involved in founding all abortion-rights movements.
(Bernard Nathason.)

then he realized the exact nature of abortion and did an about-face.
now, in his old age, he is at long last a Catholic.

Dr. N was among the first to label abortion “a holocaust.” that was decades ago.
your Jewish colleagues/friends might find his thinking to be an eye-opener.

Because it does, I think I know why, but I can’t say for sure. To them, it is a word that describes one event, the attempted extermination of jews in WWII. As a matter of fact, i would say that has become the definition of the word to many of them. When the word is used, they think of one thing and one thing only, that event.

yet not true for Bernie Nathanson!

Well, then those who think that way are simply wrong. I don’t think pro-lifers should stop using an appropriate truth in order to appease someone who is wrong.

I am a big fan of Dr Nathanson, but remember he understands the issue better than any of us ever could. He knows it is truly a holocaust. I am talking about the best way of convincing those who do not know this. Two seperate groups. We have got to change society’s way of thinking if we are every going to win the battle.

Yes, unless there is a way of expressing the same truth, just as adequately or even better, without using the word. That’s my point. It is difficult to come up with one word which is better, yet at the same time, I have had better luck in conversations without using the word. Hence my indecisiveness, or talking in circles as you put it.

Well, good luck with all of that! I’m going to use the word.

**With Jewish friends, family, collegues,
offer the name of B. Nathanson and recommend his books.
If Nathanson can (and does) use the term ‘holocaust’
without apologies, we can feel free to do so also.

In the African American community, abortion has
been described as a tool for genocide. I agree with that too.
14% of the population in USA is AfAm.
43+% of all abortions are of AfAm babies in USA.
Doesn’t take much thought to reach the conclusion: genocide.**

me too. it IS a holocaust.
I will also I believe that if we call it what it is more people will get it. I am always surprised to hear someone say that we can never let another holaucost happen again, I am quick to point out that it has happened numerous times since and is currently happening as we speak with abortion. That usually leaves them thinking.

Excellent point! Not to mention, if anyone should have the rights to the word “holocaust”, it is the unborn. The number of abortion victims has long since surpassed the victims of Hitler’s holocaust. Not that I’m downplaying Hitler’s holocaust, of course. Both are injustices which should never be tolerated. Excpet, for some reason, abortion is tolerated. It is even tolerated by those who are against it. Their silence on the issue speaks volumes!
