March for Life

Who is going to the March for Life in 2016? I have three daughters. I have been with the two older ones. It was a good bonding time. Hoping to make it with the youngest this January. Money may be an issue, my oldest starts college this year.

I will be I always go with a huge group from my state, We usually have about 8 to 10 buses full of kids going on these trips. It’s a pilgrimage, we do the march for life but it’s one of many things we do on the trip and I would argue for the Church, one of the less important things we do.

My youngest daughter and I will be making the trip this year. I am excited that she decided to go. I don’t think there is any value if I force her to go.

We will be traveling from western Missouri. Any one else from the area going?

I went as a teenager with the youth group, some 12-14 years ago or thereabouts.

It was a really impressive event, and I’m glad I went. For the first time in my life, I felt like a part of something much bigger than myself. I saw thousands of other teens who cared about this stuff, too, and didn’t feel nearly so alone. As part of the trip, we went to the Basilica, something I can highly recommend anyone in the area do.

I’m not sure I’d go again; I think it is more geared towards youth anyhow, and it’s rather impractical with small kids if you don’t live in the area. However, if the kids want to go on a well-supervised trip once they’re old enough, I’d be happy to have them do so. Like I said, it was a really, really memorable experience.

I would really like to go, but like Ubi said I don’t know with kids. It’s not the event itself or even the travel - we’re not that far and they’re pretty good with road trips. It’s just the cold.

It’s encouraging to know that lots of young people go. That’s not exactly the narrative about pro-life people.

No, the main stream media does not want to admit that he younger kids are moving in the pro-life direction. I have three daughters I think this is very important for them to see.

I was blessed with nice weather twice. The last time was very cold. We ate lunch from a street vendor. My can of Coke was freezing on the top!

FWIW, the year I went it was in the 50s; a lovely day!

The traffic leaving afterwards was at least Purgatory on earth, though, and I don’t even want to think about what hotel rooms (at least, of the non-hourly variety ) must run during the March.

I’d say that the vast majority there were young, which makes sense. College and high school students and unmarried young professionals have a lot fewer responsibilities than those who are older and/or married with kids. Retirees, who would have more free time, are more likely to have a harder time with all the standing and walking associated with it.

I live near DC and I went two years ago. I’ll be 8 months pregnant when it happens this year, so if I’m feeling up to it, I’ll just head to that endpoint where people are giving speeches.
