I have just found out that the March of dimes supports groups that do stem cell research and they give grants to groups that promote abortion in birth defects and also to planned parenthood. I am flabbergasted to find this out and all catholics need to know this so that they do not give to this organization. I have a son that is a very high level person in a well known Insurance company that requires all District Managers to give $4,000 yearly to the March of Dimes and he was supporting this organization and raising thousands of dollars for them but will not go through with his planes that were to take place very soon in his large town. He believes he will probably loose his job because of this but is ready to give up everything he has. More information can be found on “focus on the family” with Dr. James Dobson

Wow, that’s terrible. Is there some other similiar march he could give to?

I think St. Judes hospital for Children is a better choice, I hope anyway.

Are Your Charitable Dollars Funding the Destruction of Life?

A summary of disease and injury advocacy groups’ positions on stem cell research.

When was the last time you were standing in line at a supermarket and were asked to donate to an organization raising money to find cures for disease or treatments for injuries? Have you ever wondered what kind of research these disease and injury advocacy organizations support? Many philanthropic organizations that are raising money and awareness to cure diseases support research and policies in direct opposition to a pro-life ethic. Some support destructive embryonic stem cell research. Others support cloning technologies that would create human life for the sole purpose of destroying it and using the cells in research.

You can do your part to uphold the value and dignity of all human life by being informed and carefully considering what organizations you support financially. The following is a short compilation of organizations and their positions on embryonic stem cell research, adult stem cell research, and cloning:

Support Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Human Cloning
Alliance for Aging Research
Alzheimer’s Society (UK)
American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF)
Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation
Children’s Neurobiological Solutions Foundation
Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation
Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Michael J. Fox Foundation
Parkinson’s Disease Foundation

Support Embryonic Stem Cell Research
ALS Association
American Cancer Society1
Multiple Sclerosis National Research Institute
March of Dimes
North American Brain Tumor Coalition
Paralyzed Veterans of America Spinal Cord Research Foundation
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization

Support Cloning
American Diabetes Association

Support Fetal Tissue Research
March of Dimes

Support Adult Stem Cell Research Only
American Heart Association
SCI Research Advancement - “The Will Ambler Project”
The Thomas Hartman Foundation for Parkinson’s Research Inc

Currently Supports Adult Stem Cell Research
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada

Disclaimer: This information was accurate as of August 2005, subject to change based on organizations’ positions.

1 While the American Cancer Society only funds research involving adult stem cells, their website makes it clear that they fully support research using embryonic stem cells.

aaa_colleen . . . It was grave concern about this exact subject that brought me to Catholic Answers Forum initially . . . Re your son’s predicament . . . this is an opportunity for him to share our wonderful Faith and reveal the dark side of this organization to his corporate superiors . . . *in service to our Wonderful Lord *. . . and to encourage them to allow him . . . “freedom of religious conscience” . . . in his response to their corporate demand re this charity . . . and being fired because of a benevolent religious conviction . . . isn’t an appropriate ground for termination . . . and isn’t legal . . . (he may not be received graciously . . . and then again . . . he very well may) . . . Also . . . I understand that there is the International Foundation for Genetic Research . . . popularly known as The Michael Fund . . .which was founded as the pro-life alternative to the March of Dimes . . . however . . . I am not familiar with their work personally. . .

Your son, yourself and your family are in my prayers this day . . . courage! . . . keep the Faith . . . God loves you . . .

Thought the below information might be helpful to anyone who wants to learn further information about this group.

I am always reminded of the following portion of Sacred Scripture whenever considering the March of Dimes organization. It proves to be an excellent helpful test for God’s children to use in the Spirit regarding discernment of this dark organization, who are truly masquerading as angels of light by hiding behind the innocence of babies as their guise while they have promoted dark and most unholy activities which activities their history clearly demonstrates.

:highprayer: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardingly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and be cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them."
Matthew 7:15-20

Subject: March of Dimes (found elsewhere on the Catholic Answers Website)

“Established in 1938 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the March of Dimes (MOD) is a national voluntary health agency developed to put an end to polio and improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. They accomplish this through research programs, community services, education, and advocacy. Seems good at first glance, and we can’t deny the fact that they have done some great things, but it’s their hidden abortion agenda and contradictory stance on human life that has landed them on The Dark Side. In 1972 the March of Dimes pioneered the technique of diagnostic, mid-trimester amniocentesis. This technique is used to obtain a sample of the fluid surrounding a pre- born baby (during the middle of the pregnancy) to determine if the child has a genetic disease such as Down’s Syndrome or Spina Bifida. In cases where it’s determined that the child has a genetic disease they are often aborted—about 95% of these babies are killed by surgical abortion (termed by MOD as “therapeutic abortion.”). While serving on the March of Dimes’ Medical Service Advisory Committee, Henry Foster admitted to doing nearly 700 abortions after amniocentesis revealed genetic problems. MOD is also pro-abortion when it comes to babies inside the womb of a mother who has triplets or more. In a paper entitled, “Fetal Reduction and Selective Termination in Multi- Fetal Pregnancy,” March of Dimes stated that you can kill one of the babies in a multiple pregnancy “to allow the birth of a healthy newborn, without the birth of a coexisting fetus with a congenital abnormality.” They added that it was okay to selectively kill babies “to reduce a multiple pregnancy to a single pregnancy for social or personal indication.” As if that wasn’t enough, March of Dimes uses aborted babies for fetal tissue research. MOD gave $19,000 to Dr. John F. S. Crocker of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to study congenital kidney abnormalities. In his study, Dr. Crocker used “60 pairs of embryonic kidneys…obtained from human therapeutic abortions after five to twelve weeks gestation.” And this is just one of the many cases where MOD supported using the tissue of babies killed by abortion for research. While claiming a policy of strict neutrality when it comes to abortion, the March of Dimes’ actions prove otherwise. Their support for aborting babies with genetic diseases, killing children in a multiple pregnancy, and using these aborted babies for research shows that they are anything but neutral! "

The Priests for Life organization also has an even deeper well of resources available revealing the horrific dark side of this worldly organization.

Jesus, My son is ready to give up his job that he loves so much even though this will put him in very deep debt that he would probably never be able to get out of because he has leased a huge office for 5 or 6 years for about 5 or 6 Thousand a month. He is also an attorney and has been a judge but will give up everything because he is against this. He will notify the top executives today. He had planned this big tournament for next month with Tevelision and radio personel covering it and thousands of people all for the March of Dimes until he just found this out yesterday, he was so sad when he called me last night, please pray for him.

The March of Dimes & the American Diabetes Assoc. heavily promote their fundraisers in our schools & businesses here.We try to tell folks not to contribute, too.
Hope so much all goes well for your son. That’s really tough.God bless him.

🙂 I have always loved the little phrase of encouragement "When . . . God . . . closes. . . a door . . . he . . . always. . . opens . . . a window."

"In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths."

If he is let go for this reason, I hope your son gets a lawyer, sues his employer and goes on every talk show and newcast that will have him!

Its so sad that so many so-called “charities” support immoral practices. We have to be so careful.
