I wonder what all those supposedly compassionate pro-choicers would think if they knew their heroine was a big fan of eugenics? So, obviously, were the Nazis.

Not to in any way defend Sanger but eugenics was a very popular movement back in the day & even folks like Oliver Wendell Holmes supported it in some way if I remember correctly. I think there are still supporters out there if you scratch the surface a bit.

Thanks for mentioning this. I mean this is just bad scholarship. Around the turn of the century the Bronx zoo in NYC had an African Pygmy on display. And the President of the Natural history museum said he wanted it to be a monument to the triumph of white European culture. I am positive that if we could comb through the Vatican archives we would find statements about non-Europeans that Catholics would not be proud of.

It is not really proper to judge the actions of the past entirely by modern standards. However that does not mean we can’t say that something was wrong.

Dog, her work lives on in Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the world. They give out their cherished “Margaret Sanger Award” yearly. 2 years ago Hillary Clinton accepted hers proudly.

To the other posters: Jesse Jackson was well aware that birth control and abortion were directed at black Americans. And then he ran for President…got funded to shut his mouth and accept it all as part of the Democrat Party plan to own minority votes.

I think it’s more to educate folks on her ties to eugenics, which are generally not well known. And,as some pro-life people believe, the eugenics philosophy continues alive & well under the guise of the abortion industry today.
There may come a time when her name is removed from “women’s centers”, and awards. Even though there were many eugenics enthusiasts in Margaret Sanger’s day, she stands out as a zealot.
Some who promoted sterilization for eugenic purposes,such as Joseph DeJarnette have had their name removed from institutions. I think Margaret Sanger’s day is coming.But it’s going to take more “outing” of the ugly underside of her beliefs. And in CAF that’s a bit like preaching to the choir.Or almost.
