I would like to read about some of the more famous Marian apparitions such as Fatima and others. I have already read about Medjugorie(sp?). Is there any good sites on the internet about these? Any books also? I have read “Our lady of Fatima” by Walsh. Any others?
Also, a question about Fatima. I have heard some negative claims that the prophesies. That the events occurred then after the fact, the children said the Blessed Mother told them they were going to happen. I actually thought about this prior to hearing this. How do we know the children knew before hand? Same thing with other apparitions, how do we know for sure that these things were predicted before they happened. Is there solid proof? I wondered this about other apparitions also. Thanks for the help

Hi Joey,

I am glad that you have that longing in your heart. It is a gift. 🙂 Regarding a solid site about Fatima, this is the official site of the Shrine of Our Lady in Fatima in Portugal.

It is a good start. If you want additional information, I would suggest: Fatima in Lucia’s Own Words. which is the Official Collection of the Memoirs of Sister Lucia, written autobiographically in obedience to her bishop. They are a great source! You’ll love it! You can get it here:

I pray this helps

Unfortunatelly, a sure sign that an apparition comes from God is that the enemy attacks it. 😦 You will hear all kinds of rumours and claims, specially in certain sites of the Web. But don’t worry, Fatima was one of the greatest apparitions with which God blessed the world and all the children are on their way to sainthood.🙂

If you enjoy reading about Marian apparitions, don’t miss *The Song of Bernadette *by Franz Werfel, and St. Bernadette Soubirous by Abbe Francois Trochu. The first is a fictional version (and a movie in black and white made from the book won an acadamy award for the girl who played Bernadette). The book by the Abbe is non-fiction, and a very good biography…

Stick to the Church approved apparitions like Fatima, Lourdes and others. Steer clear of Medjugorie. It is NOT approved.

Here is a Marian site to check out.

I’ll second the recommendation of the book, St. Bernadette Soubirous by Abbe Francois Trochu.

I’m a big fan of Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernadette and I have visited Lourdes France and also Nevers, where St Bernadette’s incorrupt body lies.

Abbe Francois Trochu in his book, leaves no stone unturned. The book includes every detail of the apparitions, but also of Bernadette’s live before during and after the apparitions. There are also photos.

The most amazing part of the book for me is reading St. Bernadette’s dairy and letters, at the end of the book. Bernadette was considered a stupid girl, by the people she grew up around. However, when you read her writings, if you didn’t know it was hers, you could easily think it was written by St. John of the Cross or some other great spiritual writer.

There is also a good book called St Catharine Laboure and the Miraculaous Medal by Alma Power-Waters and published by Ignatius press.

Hi Joey 👋 Have you ever heard of the Apparitions of Our Lady at Knock, Ireland? If not, take a look at the below link. Beautiful account of the happenings at Knock in the summer of 1879. (p.s. When I opened the page… the music was kind of wild, the webmaster needs to adjust it, or something. lol. But if you turn the volume down… I’m sure you will enjoy the page). God bless you.

Two books in my personal collection:

“Acheiropoeta: Not Made By Hands” by Thomas Sennot. The first half of the book deals with Our Lady of Guadalupe and the image on the tilma.

“A Woman Clothed with the Sun: Eight great apparitions of Our Lady” edited by John J. Delaney.

Some web sites:

The Apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the 20th Century This also includes a very extensive bibliography of Marian Apparitions.

PDT’s PROPHETS, VISIONS, MIRACLES & SIGNS FROM GOD This is a very extensive site, but view with caution. Towards the bottom, there is a section of “Relatively Unknown Private Revelations”. Everything below this title is of questionable or dubious validity. Read with caution.

Our Lady of the Rosary Library

Stepping Stones to Catholic Apparitions & Miracles

Claims of Private Revelation: True or False? Again, a site you need to treat with caution. The webmaster (Catholicplanet.com) is a Roman Catholic theologian that has some excellent explanations of different subjects. This web page lists both “reliable” and “unreliable” apparitions and private revelations. The problem is that he’s using his own discernment as to whether an apparition is reliable or unreliable. As a result, he has listed as “unreliable” several apparitions that have at least limited approval. In addition, he has his own end-times time line worked out, which has Christ returning in the 24th or 25th century. As a result, he has listed as “unreliable” any vision, apparition, or private revelation that makes reference to the imminent return of Christ. Again, read with caution.

Medjugorje and Garabandal are both very popular apparitions that have not yet been approved. They have not yet been DISapproved, and may provide spiritual benefits to you. Part of the reason they haven’t been approved is their ongoing nature. The apparitions at Medjugorje are still going on, and the apparitions at Garabandal involved prophesied events that have yet to occur. Until the apparitions end and the prophesied events occur, no ruling can occur on their validity or worthiness of belief.

Actually none of that is correct. When apparitions are false there is no need to wait until the messages cease. In Medjugorie 3 separate Bishops’ commissions have declared there is no evidence of any supernatural happenings there and they went further to say the visionaries are frauds. The franciscan priests who are promoting the apparitions have had their faculties suspended and they cannot say Mass or hear Confessions. The Church does not do something like that lightly. Our Pope while he was still Cardinal Ratzinger called Medjugorie a hoax and he also issued a statement saying that comments allegedly made by him and Pope John Paul II favourable to Medjugorie were sheer inventions.
Do not hold your breath expecting an approval for Medjugorie. It will not come.
