Following-on from the “Fatima” thread, I wanted to open another to talk about the differences and similarities between the messages of Marian apparitions which have been approved by the church (and I suppose we could add Medjugorje in there too if needed). It’s a given that each apparition will have miracles attached to them, but I really want to focus on the individual messages…because they really are all over the board.

Personally, I can recall 2 that I think are in fact quite similar; Guadalupe and Lourdes. Just throwing it out here; does anyone feel like discussing this topic? Once again; not whether they are true or not, but discussing the content of Marian messages as well as compare/contrast similarities?

Thanks in advance!

We cannot add unapproved apparitions, This will rule out Medjugorje.
You said it…I didn’t 😃 However, if the moderators care to open in up in that direction, we absolutely COULD take a look at unapproved apparitions to see exactly why and how they do not coincide with the approved ones. It may actually be a useful exercise for people who cling to unapproved messages to hear the reality. But if it’s too controversial I can understand either way.

Was in line at confession with an older woman (very late 70s or so), and somehow she started talking about Marian apparitions.

She kept telling me how authentic Medjugorje is. I asked her if she didn’t think Fatima was authentic as well. She scrunched up her face and turned to tell me staunchly, “that one’s not real”. 😪

How does this happen to people…?

According to a person regularly accused of being an ultra-liberal, our Holy Father Pope Francis: it happens because of attacks from the devil.
Hello! I definitely read a nuance in your statement, so I’m only taking at face value without any negatives or hostility. I would place 2 cautions here (which you may already find self-evident); 1. Pope Francis’ deeds and actions are very often misconstrued by both liberal and conservative media fonts to suit their own agenda (often playing very fast and loose with translations from either Spanish or Italian) 2. Popes have always had to walk a tight-rope when it comes to such Marian or Saintly devotions, since often times they are accredited to one’s “return to the faith” or “conversion” to Catholicism. I have actual come across converts to Catholicism (both Americans; one a “new ager” and one a Protestant) who came to the faith after a visit to Medj. Once, when I pointed out a discrepancy in a Medj-message with official church teaching, the “new ager” said, “well…it speaks to ME”. In other words, for this guy, his personal experience at Medj trumps any/all church dogma…and that will probably be the case for the duration of his adulthood should he remain Catholic (or maybe not…there’s always hope).

The point being, in 2015 Pope Francis went all the way to Bosnia, and didn’t go anywhere near Medj. Yet at the same time, he recently allowed “organized visits” to Medj as well as appointing the former Bishop of Warsaw as “apostolic visitor” for those who visit the site. And of course, on his return visit from Fatima, the Pope made these comments (once again, GROSSLY mistranslated, as I speak Latin, Spanish and Italian…but if you want, just take a look at his facial expressions when he talks, which frankly tells the story).

In other words, there’s a LOT more going on behind the scenes during any given Papacy, whereas for us know-it-alls, it just seems like “what are they thinking!!??” 😉

Anyway, thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut here.

It is one of the rules of the forum, no discussing unapproved apparitions 🙂

#6 Do not post material from unapproved private revelations.

These rules can be found in the FAQ file

Thanks for this. I did see that, but I took “material” to mean propaganda, links or other such direct content (i.e. such as promoting it) as opposed to discussing the topic itself, specifically in the context of knowing it is unapproved. And that in itself is a bit muddy, since something that has not yet been “approved” doesn’t mean it necessarily won’t be in the future…as opposed to something that is suppressed by the church (i.e. Bayside).

Like I said, literally day 2 for me here and I’m just learning. I honestly don’t even know how to distinguish between who is a moderator here, so if you are one then my apologies. If not, I definitely would like some clarification in that direction just so I don’t overstep.
