Lately a bunch of information of Marian Apparitions has been falling into my lap and I’m getting very interested in them, probably God inspiring a better devotion to the Blessed Mother in me, which wasn’t as important to me in the past as it should have been. So in light of this I will create a (new?) thread for this topic. Questions, comments, concerns, etc.

To start- Are there any “Marian Apparitions” of which the Church does not approve?

Medjugorie,

Or at least, at this time, it is not approved and great caution has been encouraged.

At this point it is only open to Vatican investigation, as of March 2010

What about those that other churches hold? For instance Orthodox and Anglican churches. Does the Church approve? And what are the messages that the approved ones bring?

Do you think there will be a decision made on it any time in the near future?

There are Loads is does not approve and only a few that is has approved in recent history the last being oddly enough Japan. So that would be a good starting point I think for you.

And I would urge the church to make a decision soon on Medijore ( could this be the great apostacy that will set priest against priest, cardinal against cardinal ) I have never seen an apparition of the Virgin to create so much discord in the church and now my reading leads me to believe it is about to be franchised out to somewhere in the states in about a week.

I really cant make my mind up about it and need the church to make a clear discision backed by the Pope. If the apparition is truth the the Virgin will I’m sure do something to convince the Pope as she always has convinced the Authority of the Church in the past . If it is untrue then will the people behind it fall into line behind the Authority of the Church or will they rebel. Then the fruits will be really tested.

The longer the Church procrastinates on this the worse a no answer could be. Is this why the delay, fear of outcome.

Every day there is a new test to faith; we need the Holy Spirit more and More

Mmmm “near future” is a pretty open term.

Generally speaking, the Holy See takes a very long time and is never rushed nor pushed into declaring anything.

The very fact that the reported apparitions of Our Lady are have said to begun back in 1981 and just a year ago the Vatican opened an investigation shows that the Holy See will act methodically, deliberately and with great (and slow) purposefulness of thought and time.

So “near future”? I would say not.****

For 2000 years there have always been great delays for a variety of reasons. The miracluous was never ment to convert.

This how long before the Immaculate Conception took before it became dogma, even though it was believed by the faithful (19th century). The same with the Assumption.(20th century).

These beliefs were held by the faithful LONG before the Holy See declared them valid.

As for medjogorje, there are still apparitions going so, as claimed by the seers. The Vatican will not conclude its investigation till the apparitions are over. I think the apparitions have been going on since 1981, the longest continuing so far, if true.

Just a little tidbit, I learned yesterday that Vatican approved the Japan apparition at Akita back in the 90s. The japan earthquake occurred some 90 miles from the apparition site.

Best stick to the ones which ARE approved.

Actually the epicenter of the quake was 120 to 130 miles from the site of the apparition.

As for Medj, any apparition that has Mary telling seers and priests to be disobedient to the Church is not a true apparition. No matter what Rome decides that is where I will stand. After all we are free to not believe in any approved apparition.

I agree the Church needs to do something about Medjugorje soon. I just went to a Christian Mother’s meeting last week and they talked about Medjugorje for over an hour as if it was approved and true. What do you mean about it being franchised in a week?

You should check out Our Lady of Kibeho in Rwanda. They occurred in the 1980s and predicted the atrocities of the Rwandan genocides. Beautiful messages!

This has been officially approved by the Vatican so it is safe to discuss. I don’t think other non approved apparitions are allowed for discussion here unless the rules have changed. So this thread might get shut down if that is the case.

The three big ones are:
Lourdes (Our Lady appeared several times to a child, St. Bernadette. St.Bernadette finally asked her who she was. "I am the Immaculate Conception.’’ Our Lady said in a voice filled with emotion.)
Fatima (This one is sometimes called Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima, because that is how Mary identified herself. She kept appearing to three children, and used them as a way to spread the goodness and truth about Heaven and the Church. She advocated the Five Saturdays Devotion, daily Rosary, and devotion to the Immaculate Heart. Also gave the children a vision of Hell and promised them they would all be welcomed into Heaven, and proved everything to the town through the miracle of the sun. May return a 7th time).
Guadeloupe (An image involving a peasant named Diego Rivera)

I have also heard of Kibeho, and very recently one called Syracruse, where Our Lady’s tears fell or something…I’m not sure. Do any of you know about that one?

Many years ago, I got pulled into the whole Medgugorje thing, and subsequently all of the satellites` that formed in the US and elsewhere. I actually visited the village, and met Father Phillip Pavich there. I moved and joined a new parish, and one of the satellites moved from Arizona to my Maryland parish; the parish was seriously divided. I began to question the whole phenomena, and the cult-like atmosphere, as my life was beginning to revolve around the next apparition or message. Some internet searching led me to Father Pavich’s denunciation of the whole affair. He, like I, first believed but later questioned it. In his opinion, the apparitions are nothing but a hoax and a money making scheme.

Author Michael Davies wrote an excellent book, which is available as a free download on his website. It is an excellent piece of investigative journalism that goes into the whole history behind the false apparitions. I walked away from it all, I can’t begin to explain what a huge weight was lifted; it was becoming impossible to do all of the various devotions with the myriads of promises; plus some of these were bordering on being just plain nonsense (Two blond hairs on a woman’s floor, that she picked up and placed in the trash, were revealed to her during an apparition to be Our Lady’s??? I didn’t know they had Clairol Blondessence back in Mary’s days!). 😉

A Third Order Carmelite has links to scans of official documents related to Medjugorje; a laicized priest under Interdict married to an ex-nun that had his child while both were still serving in the parish and in the Franciscan order (both were removed from the order) That “priest” is STILL the spiritual director for one of the visionary’s! Another famous Medjugorge priest has been confined to a friary and ordered to not speak of the apparitions. The visionaries are extremely wealthy, and operate many of the inns and motels in the village. As Fr Pavich said, a money-making scheme. I can hardly wait for Rome to put an end to this runaway train, I pray it will happen soon.

We have our own “Lourdes” now in the US, the apparitions to Adele Brice in Wisconsin, Our Lady of Good Help, received the approval of the Vatican as of Dec 8, 2010.

literally thousands and until the Church approves they obviously are not bona fide appearances of Mary. Med. specifically is a banned topic on this forum

The common theme in all approved Marian apparitions is that she brings peace and calm and a renewed since of faith and love. She does not bring confusion, anger, or divisiveness. Certain unapproved apparitions are causing confusion, doubt, anger and divisiveness which should bring red flags. However, Satan is very cunning and smart and I think we underestimate the lengths he will go to deceive (even the elect).

I’ll have to check out the Wisconsin appartition. Exciting to have one so close!!

I meant to say “she brings peace and calm and a renewed SENSE of faith and love.” My brain has left the building since I am working on very poor sleep right now.

The toast, potato chip and ‘side of the building’ apparitions have not been accepted either. Now I’m hungry.

After reading about your experience, it’s reassuring when a Marian apparition receives official approval from the local bishop and the Vatican. The newly-approved apparition of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, WI, I think will be a source of great graces.

I’ve built a new website to help pilgrims make good pilgrimages there, as well as learn about the apparition and its message. I’m looking for volunteers who can write about their pilgrimage there, or who can write about pilgrimages in general.
