Does anyone know if their theology/philosophy program is consistent with church teachings?

What about the rest of their classes (as far as they are able)?

So far this school is the only one I’ve come across that offers my major & minor (Religious Education and Philosophy) that is within 2500 miles of my home, that I even have a chance of being able to afford. Only problem is that it doesn’t appear to be as hardcore catholic as I’d like, and I recently heard that they had issues with their theology. I’m starting to reconsider Marian as my #1 choice school.

College searching is frustrating. I vote Ave Maria moves back up to Ann-Arbor MI 😃

I do not know much about Marian as it is now. I know years ago it was one of the best Catholic Colleges around. Back when nuns taught in all the Catholic Schools, most took classes at Marian if they were furthering their education. Below is a link to all the articles that mention Marian in the Archdiocesan newspaper. You might be able to glean a little info, from just some of the articles. There are 107 pages of results, so happy reading:)

Hi Raindrops, I know several kids at Marian. In fact, I know a couple of seminarians there. The theology department is not very orthodox. In fact, the seminarians take all their theology courses from the rector of their seminary since they are so bad. But, the rector told me that the** philosophy** courses are excellent. I’ll pm you his email.

But, it is improving. There’s a reform movement taking place on campus.

If my kid wanted to study theology, I’d push for Ave Maria, Benedictine College in Kansas, Steubenville, Christendom, or Dallas. Another option though is take an undergrad degree in a more practical field and then do your grad work in theology. Then you could even do an online program from Steubenville. Or, you could get your teaching degree with a religous ed certification and then do study on your own to fill in gaps.

o thank-you! That would be fantastic.

I wonder if I could take classes from the rector… I know the seminary is separate from the rest of the college, hopefully it’s not too far off. :hmmm:

This school is offering me amazing scholarships and great financial aid… if I go here I’ll graduate with $40,000 of debts at the most, as opposed to the $60,000-$80,000 I’ll have if I go at any other school I’ve considered (none of which offer my major). 😦
