Marian Devotions during Mass?

Surely not.

Pope John Paul II visited each Marian apparition site world wide during his pontificate. Made a point to do it. Knock is near our home in Ireland. He was there, lovely Mass, thousands in attendance. Beautiful place. Yes, it’s a Marian shrine.

I don’t think you can ever compare Marian devotions to love for God. That’s just unnecessary. If people love Mary, it takes nothing from Our Lord.
Mary, in her life, in her messages, in everything about her being…points squarely to her Divine Son.

You realize that if the Mass you attend prays the Confiteor you are indeed asking the Blessed Mother as well as all the Angels and Saints,and your brothers and sisters to pray for you?

Obviously practices differ between countries. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I’ve heard Hail Mary during the intercessions.

Could we love Her more than Jesus does, not hardly. Can we love Jesus more than Mary does, never !! Anytime Mary comes to us, it’s because she was sent by God to help us. (as long as it has been approved by the Church.) And boy do we need her help !! God Bless, Memaw

No I don’t have a problem with the Hail Mary. That is an obvious distortion…: I think you know that.

The Mass is the Mass. The Church is very clear that devotions should not be integrated in to it. After the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours, the Hail Mary is the Church’s most cherished prayer.

The Church recognises that the Hail Mary is more than a devotion which is why it would be hard to find a Roman Catholic Church that does not incorporate the prayer into the liturgy. As with many things, those who preside over the ins and outs of Church liturgy, amongst other things, can be trusted in their openness to being guided in their inspirations that allow for the deepening and widening of understanding into the Revelation the Church witnesses to in the fullness of time.

Really?:confused: That would mean that I should have heard it at least at one of the churches I visited for Mass last year. But, no, never happened. In fact, I’ve rarely experienced the Hail Mary incorporated into the Liturgy.
 
Our present pastor always leads us in a Hail Mary after the prayers of intercession on feasts days of our Blessed Mother. We have had a few visiting priests who gave a parish mission to include the Hail Mary after the petitions during each Mass. At first it seemed a little awkward but not totally bad or wrong. I understand why one should not pray the whole rosary or be doing other devotional prayers during the celebration of the Mass because your mind should be focused on what is going on at the Mass. But this one Hail Mary after the petitions doesn’t seem to be anything worth complaining about. And when you think of it, it’s really not unheard of to hear the Hail Mary at Mass because sometimes it is sung in Latin (Ave Maria) at particular parts in the Mass. And that has been done ever since I can remember 🙂

The month of May is our Lady’s month. Last Sunday, we celebrated her crowning, **before **Mass. **After **Mass, we’ll pray the Hail Mary and sing Regina Caeli (Latin) as Father and the altar servers process out of the church.

I don’t travel extensively, but I have been to several parishes in my home state, and surrounding states—no where have we prayed the Hail Mary after intercessions.

As Phemie suggested, this might be a regional practice.
 
I’ve gone to May crownings that are a ceremony alone or happen before/after Mass. I’ve gone to Masses where the Rosary and Litany of Loreto are recited before Mass alone, as part of May Crowning, or with Benediction as an example.

I have no issue if we say Hail Mary after the intercessions. Its a nice touch, and reminds us that Mary does truly intercede for us.

Our May Crowning happened as part of the entrance procession, so before the opening blessing, and thus before Mass.

It is universal practice in England and Wales, and Ireland.
