What do you think of this that is found in the Glories of Mary found in CHAPTER 6?

At the command of Mary all obey, even God. 38
She is omnipotent, for the queen, according to all laws, enjoys the same privileges as the king; and since the son’s power also belongs to the mother, this Mother is made omnipotent by an omnipotent Son. 39
Therefore, to use the words of St. Antonine, **God has put the whole Church not only under the patronage, but even under the power and authority, of Mary. **

Is this something as a catholic you believe?
Mary, as a creature, can do nothing without Christ. All she is, and all she does, depends only upon what the Lord allows her to do. If Jesus decides to put the Church under her patronage, that is His choice.

I am not familiar with the context or accuracy of this quote, but I do know what scripture teaches us, that Jesus was obedient to HIs mother, and that when she asked Him for something, He did it for her. She is the eternal example of “do as He tells you”. Therefore, there would be no distinction between what Mary would want, and what Jesus would want. She is united to Christ by faith and by blood.

I love this topic as it is, and wouldn’t wish to threadjack. It is about Marian Devotions, which is not necessarily Mariology.

So, I have opened another thread to reply to you in the Spirituality forum.

I don’t think justasking’s proposal is so far off the topic of devotions. We can plainly see no references to devotion to Mary in the scripture the way we see them present in the Church after the 5th century and up to today.

We see small seeds only of the Marian doctrines, and the devotions. We beleive by faith that Jesus was a faithful to the commandments, and honored His mother. We have some historical precedent for what that honoring might mean, but the evidence must be gleaned, and does not jump out.

I totally agree with you, however, the original question was not about hyperdulia proper. It was about obscure particular devotions. Not about the development of hyperdulia to Mary itself. Here is the OPs post:
I, as a traditional Catholic, would like to know traditional devotions that worship (hyperdulia of course) Mary that are not known by very many Catholics. Obviously, the Rosary is a good prayer, but are there anyones that not many people know about?
Therefore, I opened the other thread to answer specific questions that JustAsking4 had voiced, and went into detail using the methodology he suggested.

When JustAsking4 asked me to actually “Look up all the references to Mary in the scriptures and compare those verses and passages with the doctrines on her,” and keeping passages and words in context, I can see fitting it in this topic if we were discussing this in the realm of a specific practice of hyperdulia to Mary (i.e. May Crowning). However, I don’t see JustAsking4 requesting background on a specific Marian Devition, but about hyperdulia to Mary in general.

This is a step further off topic from the original poster who was asking, and thought it was better not to threadjack this topic.

go now to the place in Shiloh whereI first made a dwelling for my Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. While you were doing all these things, declares the Lord, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen.I called you, but you did not answer. Therefore, what I did at shiloh I will do to the house that bears my Name, the temple you trust in, the place I gave to your fathers. I will thrust you from my presence, just as I did to all your brothers, the people of ephraim. so do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petetion for them, do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you. Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of judah and in the streets of jerusalem? the children gather wood, the fathers light the fires, and the women knead the dough and make cakes of bread for the Queen of heaven. they pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger. but am I the one they are provoking?declares the Lord. are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame? Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: My anger and My wrath will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, on trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground, and it will burn and not be quenched. this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says; G o ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves! For when I brought your forefathers out of egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices. but I gave them this command;Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people.Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may go well with you. But they did not listen or pay attention;instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. they went backward and not forward. From the time your forefathers left egypt untilnow, day after day, again and again I sent you my servants the prophets. but they did not listen to me or pay attention. they were stiff-necked and did more evil than their forefathers. jeremiah 7:12-26

Could someone tell me what the three great privileges were that the Hail Marys are said in honor of? I’m sure I’m just missing it somewhere in there

From the website linked above-
“Recite, morning and evening, three Hail Marys in honor of the three great privileges…”

I’m not really sure. The great privileges, I think are within the prayer.

She is the Mother of God

Each one is to be said to honor one person of the Trinity.

Is it possible to go to far in marian devotions? Take for example this paragraph from the Glories of Mary below:

Wilt thou endure to see a servant of thine who loves thee lost? O Mary, what sayest thou? I shall be lost if I abandon thee. But who can ever more have the heart to leave thee? How can I ever forget the love thou hast born me? My lady, since thou hast done so much to save me, complete the work, continue the aid, continue to help me. But what do I say if at a time when I live forgetful of thee? Thou didst favor me so much, how much more may I not hope for now that I love thee and recommend myself to thee. No, he can never be lost who recommends himself to thee, he alone is lost who has not recourse to thee. Ah, my mother, leave me not in my own hands, for I shall then be lost. Grant that I may also have recourse to thee, save me, my hope, save me from hell, but in the first place, save me from sin which alone can condemn me.

Is he going to far in saying these things about Mary being able to save him? Does Mary save from hell?

I think I have found the answer. Mary’s three privileges are:
  1. Divine motherhood
  2. Immaculate Conception
  3. Assumption
The first and the greatest [privilege], and the source of the other two, was her divine motherhood.

Mary’s other two privileges were her Immaculate Conception, which paved the way for her divine motherhood, and her Assumption, the reward which followed her divine motherhood and the privilege we celebrate in a special way… from here
