I came across this handbook during adoration and thought about buying a copy of the handbook.

Some of it does seem a bit extreme to me…but I thought I would ask you guys and get a feel for your opnions.

Hi Jotobo

I’ve never heard of anything called the Handbook . There are several publications by the Marian Movement of Priests, the two foremost of which are:
  • a) The blue book - “To The Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons”
  • b) The Cenacle Guide booklet “Cenacles of the Marian Movement of Priests - Purpose/Guide”
To begin, The Marian Movement of Priests is a private association.

The commitments of their members are
    1. Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary;
  • (2) Unity with the Pope and the Church united to him ;
  • (3) Spreading devotion to Our Blessed Mother by means of the cenacles of prayer.
You can get a fairly complete overview of them from their national (USA) website mmp-usa.net/history_old.html by clicking on the tabs in the left-hand column on the web page.

Because you said some of the book “seems a bit extreme” , may I assume you’re speaking of the blue book - “To The Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons” ?

EWTN provides a concise article giving a fair assessment as to the nature of the blue book and its contents ewtn.com/expert/answers/MMP.htm

Although the Marian Movement of Priests is a private association, you may find the following to be notable:
  • The blue book “To The Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons” (english edition) was given an Imprimatur by Bernardino Cardinal Echeverria Ruiz , OFM on February 2nd 1998.
  • Catholic News Service reported in February 2008 that at the end of 2006 there were 407,262 priests in the world ; catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0801162.htm
  • To date, the Marian Movement of Priests membership is more than 100,000 (one hundred thousand) priests, not to mention the more than 400 bishops and cardinals and millions of lay and religious who are also members.

*“To The Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons”
*Don’t pay full price.

There were several copies in the $2.00 range at a used bookstore near my home in Illinois last summer. Check around.

Amazon has links to a whole bunch.

Itd be safer to stay right away from it. MMP members seem to place too much emphasis on Fr. Gobbis so called “messages”.
eg: on the 8th of December 1984, “Mary” told Fr. Gobbi that “she” is appearing at Medjugorje!
A lot of failed “predictions” have been made.
He also thinks that the Divine Will Movement is OK.

A comprehensive critique:

The Church has enough good, solid Marian devotions, without getting involved in suspect ones.

It seemed like from what I read, at least a majority of what I read, was speaking as if Mary can save us. No where in the CCC can I find anything that speaks of Mary being a savior on any level. She is to be revered but not worshiped.

I did read some good in it. Im not bashing it.

Mary saves us the same way she turns water into wine, she asks her Son to do it and He does it to honour his mother as the Father commands.
