Hello y’all,

I am looking for some help as to which Marian statue I should buy for devotion. These are the ones that I have found available that meet my need on Autom.com

Please let me know the basis of your devotion to the Marian Statue(s) of your choice.

I have both Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of Lourdes and I use both for my Marian prayers.
I would suggest pick any of those, Our Lady will guide you to Our Lord Christ regardless of which of her apparation you devote yourself to, you could devote yourself to more than one, in fact, so if your finances allow get more than one to keep around the house! 👍

EDIT: ADVICE! How about this, take some time, and look at each image of Our Lady, and just concentrate on the image, don’t say anything, don’t do anything, just look at the image, and then see which image of the Blessed Virgin exudes the most maternal love to you, and go with that one.

While ther are many names and devotions to The Blessed Mother we pray to “Rosa Mystica”

“Mystical Rose”. The Blessed Mother has many names, but she is the same Mother…

not only to her son Jesus, but she is also our Mother.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron saint of the America’s … North and South and Central

America. Get one or like us get a number of statutes on the Blessed Mother and research

each of them to find out what is the story behind each of them.

Thanks for that advice. I plan on spending time tonight and tomorrow praying over which one or two Marian statues to order and then I will place said order on monday.

Blessings!

I live in Texas, which is very populated with Hispanic Catholics so I see a lot of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I was just wondering, what is it about Our Lady of Guadalupe that draws so many people in?

I recommend the Miraculous Medal or Mt. Carmel. Those are less popular but are very deep, esp. Mt. Carmel.

Well as someone of Mexican heritage, I could speak maybe a little one this, firstly the fact that OLG appeared in Mexico, and is normally depictated as brown skinned is strong enough to draw many people in on those two reasons. In fact many hispanic protestants still retain a kind of “devotion” to her even if they have left the Catholic faith. Personally for me, the mystical qualities I see in her image draw me in deeply, her on the standing on the moon, the stars numbering her cloak. Very “Apocalyptic”. 😃

There is a lot of symbolism in the original image (the tilma) and therefore, the statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Look into the history of that apparition, the conversations between Mary and St Juan Diego and the miraculous findings on the tilma.

One thing I really like about Our Lady of Guadalupe is that the way she is wearing her sash indicates she is pregnant so Jesus is there, too. There are other classic images that suggest this but I’m not sure which ones they are.

My favorite is Our Lady of Guadalupe, there seems to be more symbolism and she looks primitive and realistic, very humble, young and guileless. To me, some of the other Marian images come across as being too sweet and ‘English’.

Pieta, in my mind, is the best.

Something about a mother cradling her tragically murdered son…especially when that mother is the blessed virgin, and the son our Lord.

The statue of the Blessed Mother that I grew up with was that of Our Lady of Charity (La Virgen de la Caridad), the patroness of Cuba. The statue depicts three men in a small boat in the middle of a storm and Mary coming to them, calming the waters.

It is a beautiful image and reminds me that no matter what storms I may encounter, my mother is always there.

I have a small resin replica of Michaelangelo’s Pieta in my office at work. It’s in a place where only I should be able to see it but if anyone says anything I’d say, “What? It’s a Work of Art by a Master.”

I voted for Our Lady of Lourdes… I find the simplicity in the messages of Our Lady of Lourdes to St. Bernadette to have a profound meaning that even the most verbose and flowery of words cannot even touch.

Our Lady of Lourdes touches me in a profound way that I just can’t adequately explain. That there are healing of all kinds not just of the physical kind but spiritual as well at her shrine is very telling to me. I know that without my devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes and the Divine Mercy of Our Lord I would be totally lost.

God bless

I personally prefer Mary Mother of God as it depicts her first and foremost claim to dignity - being the woman who bore Jesus Christ. I don’t believe there is a specific style to this title, but the principle is that it is a depiction of Mary cradling or carrying an infant/baby Jesus in her arms. I find it the most profound, as it always ties her to her role of being the Theotokos. She is so special that she is the only one whose depiction ordinarily includes Jesus Christ. 🙂

I agree with you. I always have preferred the traditional Virgin and Child depictions of Mary. They strike me as a particularly ancient type of depiction and strongly evoke her role as the Theotokos.

I use the same one! I grew up in a Cuban family and always saw this statue right smack in our living room.
