Hello I have a friend who is Catholic but wants to quit his job to grow medical marijuana for the state, now it would be legal because it is legal in my state to grow for the medical community. But I don’t think its moral can anyone help me on this? Please and thank you:shrug:

If it’s legal, and it’s for medical purposes, I see no problem at all with it. It’s to help people with the pain that comes with cancer and other bad ailments. What’s wrong with legitimately trying to help people?

I use marijuana medically on occasion – it is a Godsend! A safe, natural drug with no side-effects. I know people who have cancer who would not be alive today due to the wasting effects of that disease. Marijuana has helped them to eat enough to survive another day and follow their other drug protocals.

I had a brother-in-law who died of Aids. We had 3-6 more months of quality time to share and express love among the family that would not have been possible without the appetite and anti-nausea effects of medical marijuana.

I know of at least 5 elderly people who are using medical marijuana in their last stages of life right now. Anyone who produced this drug in a clean, safe (preferably organic) manner is providing them with a great service. 3 of these elderly used to be so anti-weed, but now their doctor has prescribed and it is doing them so much good.

One friend is on morphine and other heavy stuff. He was supposed to die 3 years ago. The doctors attribute his ability to not overdo the morphine and to have survived this long to his judicial use of marijuana to boost his prayer and meditative states, induce deep relaxation which reduces the need for more harmful drugs like the morphine and oxycontin he has been prescribed.

I’m sure there are those who use this as a recreational drug - less harmful than the use of recreational alcohol, but still, not socially redeeming value. But please don’t think there aren’t folks who truly benefit from medical marijuana.

It sounds like there are a lot of valid uses for marijuana for medical reasons. The scenarios mentioned above sound valid.

But, I draw the line there.

There are those who use it to escape their problems and never learn how to work through them.

They use marijuana instead of prayer and devotion to God.

no side effects?
There isn’t any studies that deffinitively prove theres any long term side effects, there either inconclusive (it might do this etc) or negative (no correlation, so it doesn’t cause …)

Aslong as the marijauna is used in a legitimate way, and your friend doesn’t sell any on the side for recreational use, it is perfectly moral.

Nope - medical consensus is no side effects with “normal” use. Like anything else, if a mentally ill person goes overboard, its anyone’s guess what’s the reall cause of any side effects. But we are talking seriously mentally ill people taking numerous drugs and at exceedingly ridiculous doses.

But no, no hangover, No chromosomal damage. No nausea or vomiting (side affects of over drinking), no black outs (another alcoholic phenomena), no liver damage (again, that would be alcohol). A cancer patient (or any of the other issues people are prescribed marijuana by licensed medical doctors) who takes some weed at night wakes up refreshed from a night’s sleep and healing that might not otherwise occurred. A sleeping pill and glass of wine would have many more side effects.

Matter of fact, though I would NEVER recommend it, there is no known effect ot the fetus from the mother ingesting marijuana, but we all know how alcohol can permanently damage the baby.

According to our highway patrol, the worst thing about weed smokers who drive (again - nobody I know who uses it medicinally would EVER do this), is that they drive too slow and cautiously and thus annoy other drivers on the road. Alcohol, on the other hand, along with cell phones and texting is a major cause of accidents and death on the freeways.

Dorothy,

May I ask if you support casual use of alcohol or not? I’m not trying to debate you, just curious if you support casual use of one and not the other and why.

I think it is statements like these that turn some people off to religion. Jesus told us to remove the log out of our own eye before removing the splinter in anothers’

Remember the Pharisee who thanked god he was not like the tax collector? The tax collector was justifed because he recognized that he is not perfect.

Well, dependency/addiction on any substance is bad, whether it be alcohol or marijuana. Having fun and relaxing is one thing, I don’t want to advocate anything illegal, so I won’t say anything further on recreational usage.

However, using to ‘run away from one’s problems’ is definitely bad, no matter what you’re addicted to, and marijuana can be psychologically addicting.

I can definitely agree with that. Tonight begins my holiday vacation from work. You’d can bet I’ll be kicking back on the couch and having a few beers to unwind after a year of hard work!

I wouldn’t agree it’s immoral. Why should medicine be immoral. Even if marijuana were legal for normal users in your state, it wouldn’t be immoral. Is the director of a beer factory immoral… do you know the problems caused by alcohol? In stead, there are no registrations of people that smoked a joint and because of that got agressive.

It’s another thing if the person in question would produce marijuana and sell it to a drug cartel or something like that.

Please see Fact 4 on this DEA fact sheet:

justice.gov/dea/demand/speakout/index.html

If marijuana was a medicine then why isn’t it sold in drug stores? No, in Michigan, it’s sold in pointless “dispensaries” where no one can keep an eye on it. Sell it in drug stores if it is a medicine.

Peace,
Ed
