Tom Ammiano, a 68 year old San Fransisco Democrat and Gay Actavist is advocating the legalization of Marijuana as a revanue source hopefully to bail out the states budgetary distress. Go see: news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090313/us_time/08599188495600

How long after that will Prostitution’s legalization be on the adjenda.

I find it interesting that a presumably christian poster would say that San Francisco needs a good earthquake because of the possibility of marijuna legalization. Maybe New Orleans needs a good hurricane, boy that would straighten them out?

I suppose god is incapable of using a more precise form of punishment such as sending those who offend him a heart attack or a stroke. Or, perhaps god just delights in our suffering?

I find it incredibly silly for catholics to argue that alcohol is acceptable and at the same time argue against the use of marijuana. I also see that it’s very common for christians to employ the slipper slope argument on everything they oppose.

I’m not too crazy about the legalization of maijuana, either, but it’s probably gonna happen, whether we like it or not.

Let’s hope people will be responsible with it. :o

As far as eartquakes go , I side with atheist1. No one deserves a natural disaster. Even you should understand they are beyond control and are not to be blamed on anyone.

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood

Do atheists have a moral argument against any behavior save ‘it’s forbidden to forbid?’ The alcohol argument doesn’t hold. A glass of wine or a beer with a meal doesn’t make you a slurry speeched menace. That’s how most people drink by the way. People don’t smoke pot that way. The sole purpose of smoking marijuana is to get stoned. This is a terrible drug, it causes terrible changes in the personalities of young people suckered in to its use, a lack of will, disorientation, and openness to more of the Devils evil fruits is what results. But then atheists aren’t much concerned about protecting our precious children from womb to adulthood. They care for the selfish desires of adults I rejected atheism for Catholicism as I had tried atheism and found it an empty shell of nihilism, hubris, and hedonism, and the main source of rationalization for the dissolute soul. Atheism is the imaged world without God ruled by the spirit of Satan in the realm of chaos, darkness, and unreality. As Jesus said, by their fruits you will know them. The order to this universe is obvious, and if we have order then we have an order giver. The Greatest scientist of the last Century, Albert Einstein, believed in the Deist order giver. Don’t tell me science is on the side of atheism. But I further believe in the true God who will not let his greatest creation live and die in vain. This Creator we will all face someday regardless that an Earthquake strikes San Francisco as the firestorm destroyed Sodom and Gomorra.

I’m sorry, but I see no reason why marijuana should be illegal. It is a natural substance from the earth (usually) and it is far less dangerous than the effects of alcohol.

As someone who smoked it in high school as a freshman (I tried to be a rebel with my parents) I know firsthand the effects of marijuana. I’d rather be behind the wheel of someone who is high than someone who is intoxicated if I was forced to make that decision.

I don’t advocate the usage of it or agree with smoking it, but if a mature ADULT wants to do it in the privacy of his own home without getting behind the wheel of a car, what is the big deal?

The alcohol argument very much holds. If I remember correctly, the Catholic church teaches that drinking (alcohol) only becomes a sin when reason is impaired. It seems to me that the same logic should be applied to marijuana.

How “most people” (whoever they are) use alcohol or marijuana would seem to be irrelevant. Each can cause severe problems if abused but each can be used in moderation with little consequence.

You have no basis for anything posed. How do you know how and why everyone smokes pot? You don’t. I don’t even smoke it, but your “arguments” here are pretty ridiculous.

Back on topic please…

"Revanue Source"

How do you feel about it as a Revenue Source for a state government… likewise prostitution…?

Is that the country that you want to live and raise your children in…???

What do you think about a guy like Tom Ammiano…?

…and yes… the “Slippery Slope” argument is a legitimate one. Identifying it doesn’t negate it.

Identifying it doesn’t make it true. The Slippery Slope argument is being used here as a scare tactic and assumes people to be weak.

Since the gov’t is already receiving revenue from the sale of alcohol, I see no reason to object to it receiving revenue from the sale of alcohol. Our children are already growing up in a country where quite a few people use marijuana. I don’t think legalization will make marijuana use more widespread.

Its not like its illegal because its so bad for people. People dont get high and beat their wives. People dont get high and kill people in car accidents. People dont get high and go out and have sex with strangers.

The fact of the matter is, people who get high dont do anything. If youre going to have a bunch of people intoxicating themselves I would much rather them be smoking than drinking, it will keep the area safer for all the “sober” people.

Even though its illegal, its still the number one cash crop in the country. There are a lot of people doing it. Just because its illegal doesnt mean its scaring anyone off from smoking it. In fact, I would rather see it legalized just to increase the quality of it, so all the stupid kids in high school that are currently buying it off of shady people getting it from who-knows-where dont have to be in the danger of getting dangerous stuff laced with who-knows-what.

If its illegal, it doesnt go away. It just gets dangerous. It just fuels “the bad guys”. They should legalize it and tax it until the cows come home. Goodness knows we need to get this country out of debt.

Oh and one more note…

Great, if its legal you dont have to smoke it. Just like you dont need to drink.

Marijuana and prostitution are totally different topics…?

and lastly, excuse me? San Francisco needs a good earthquake? That is completely unacceptable. I really hope that you will examine your statement and think about what you said. If there be even one good person in that city, the whole city should be saved. Does that story sound familiar to you?

You realize you just made negative comments about legalizing a substance that no one is going to force you to take part in that would probably have zero affect on our country and its safety, and then you curse a whole city with a natural disaster? How does that work?

You do realize there are about 45 Catholic parishes in San Francisco proper alone? How many thousands of Catholics is that? Do they need a good earthquake?

I meant “earthquake” in a figurative way…

Maybe they should just wake up out there and find their way back to civilized standards.

Huh…?!

I don’t get your meaning.

Anyway…

I stick with the conjecture that the Marijuanna taxation proposition will lead into a prostitution taxation proposition and find the so called “slippery slope” still valid.

But what do make of Tom Ammiamo guy…?

San Francisco is basically on the San Andreas Fault, where we in California are long overdue a major earthquake… and you meant your comment as a metaphor?

sigh I don’t care for the dude… nor do I care for the legalization of marijuana. If or when it does get legalized, the best thing to do is educate…

I have a feeling marijuana issues will be similar to the whole painkiller problem, where kids around my age are popping pills for the heck of it. 😦

Thank you…

Let’s not argue any more.

I was just trying to put out some information that underlies a type of thinking common in places like San Francisco that flyes in the face of what God expects from us, and I still maintain that the so called “Slippery Slope” conjecture that Athiest1 brought up has merit and is valid. 'Nuther words… prostitution could easily be next on this foul adjenda that we should fight against with our votes and that we don’t. ( Check your voting satistics, you know what I’m talking about… )
