I’m starting RCIA and want to know about good resources for Marian Spirituality. I’m from a protestant tradition and this is a stumbling block for me.

EDIT: What I’m basically looking for is a good “Mary 101” sort of book.

I will do shameless advertising for Catholic Answers and I would say get Tim Staple’s book
Behold your mother
If I am not wrong, Tim staples was protestant himself and so he has quite a view on this subject.
I also reommend the resources on mary throughout Catholic Answers. Whenever you have a question you want adressed concerning Mary that you might have yourself just google : Question + Catholic Answers.
That is usually how I navigate Catholic Answers more easily. As for sources outside, I couldn’t really tell you, hopefully others give you good pointers. God bless !

For me being from a similar background I would say that I see Mary as relational - if the Lord is God and savior - your brother then you will call his mother your mother. God bless you.

How wonderful that you will start RCIA! Have you read Scott Hahn’s books? His book on Mary, Hail, Holy Queen, is short and easy to read.

If you would like to read about Scott Hahn’s conversion from Presbyterianism, I highly recommend his book Rome Sweet Home. It’s one of my favorite books.

Happy reading!

Greetings,EqualinHim,

I’m not sure what books would be best coming from a Protestant tradition. Someone mentioned the Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus Liguori. That book is an absolute masterpiece, but you might have to take it slow. I don’t know.

True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis DeMontfort might–another exquisite masterpiece about the way to Jesus through Mary–might be another excellent resource to gradually work through.

I saw that someone recommened Tim Staples book Behold Your Mother. I love the title, but don’t have that one. I imagine that would be a good one to start with.

Right now I’m reading Dr. Carrie Gress’s book “The Marian Option: God’s Solution to a Civiiization in Crisis”. I like it a lot. You might too.

God Bless!
