Hm! I guess we disagree. I like to think that the Church is open to honest discussion and treats those who have doubts and/or diverse opinions with respect and not condemn them to hell. This is the very intolerance that troubles me. Frankly, I believe Christ set us an example when he cited despised Samaritans as his heroes and ate with detested publicans and sinners.
There are many - millions upon millions - who hold on to their faith by a thread. They are honest, moral people who want to believe but have difficulty saluting and no more. If they have no place within Catholicism, if their concerns are not permitted to be examined and discussed in the spirit of I Cor. 13, let the Church automatically excommunicate all those who are assailed as 'cafeteria Catholics' because they have questions or feel the need to raise issues of importance to them.
Is it Matt. 7:1-2? Yes. I think it is. I'll let Christ do the judging. "His mercy endureth forever."
