Hi!

There is a passage in Mark that is confusing me:

"But he (Jesus) was silent and made no answer at all. The high priest put a second question to him saying, ‘Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?’ " (Mark 14:61, NJB)

Obviously ‘the Blessed One’ refers to God (the Father). But how can God be ‘Blessed’? Blessed means something God has blessed, doesn’t it? Surely God can’t bless himself. Wouldn’t “Holy One” or “Just One” or something make more sense?

Men can also bless God, for example
1 Chronicles 29:20 “And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the LORD, and the king.”
there are also a lot of Psalms (12) with ‘bless the LORD’, for examplePsalms 134:2 “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD”

also from Matthew Henry,“the Jews, when they named God, generally added, blessed for ever; and thence *the Blessed *is the title of God”
 
God blesses everything including himself. Here is the excerpt from the Haydock Bible Commentary

Ver. 61. Our Redeemer was silent, because he knew they would not attend to his words; therefore does he say in St. Luke, If I shall tell you, you will not believe me. (Theophylactus)

God would be have to be the most blessed because his the creator of all things good. Blessed is such an understatement as is most holy or the just one to describe him
