I have been told two answers. The first is that Jesus was referring to his bodily resurrection. I have also been told that he was referring to the destruction of Jerusalem.
Did you know that there is a myth that St John the apostle never died? I read that somewhere and I, of course, don’t believe it. Still wouldn’t that make an interesting Scifi movie?

You seem to be assuming that this passage refers to the end of the world. In Matthew 10, 7, while Jesus gives direction on how to preach the gospel, he says :
For St. Paul, the resurrection is the supreme manifestation of the power of God, and the resurrection is the foundation of our faith. You will note that right after the passage that you quote, the evangelist goes into the Transfiguration, where Jesus is glorified in a way before his time, thus announcing the resurrection that will follow his passion.
The Kingdom of God will reach its ultimate realization on the day of the Universal Resurrecion, where the power of God will be manifested in each one of us.

The Kingdom of Heaven starts with Jesus’ mission which is essentially his redemptive passion followed by the resurrection. Now see how St. Paul sees the resurrection :
