I’d think God would be looking at our heart more than our actions. Someone could go to Mass everyday and have no faith or care but is just doing to be thought of as holy, where as someone else might be extremely loving, dedicated to God, and to others,humble, self-sacrificing,etc, yet doesn’t always go to Mass (but still goes for the most part). I’d think God would accept the latter person more the the former.

You are right! He does accept the latter person more. But his missing Mass every now and then is not good, unless he has a serious reason for being absent. You can think of Jesus’ rebuke that he delivered to the Pharisees which He now delivers to those Mass-goers that you mentioned at first: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!” (Matt. 23:23-24). Ahh, and this is the catch: He tells them that, although they should have followed the example of your second individual who was extremely loving, dedicated to God, humble, etc., they should also continue tithing, that is, going to Mass. “These you should have done without neglecting the others.” So yes, it is more important for us to be all those things you mentioned; but we must also perform the outward act of tithing the dill.

Now I say this, but at the same time, Mass is much more than the tithe of the Pharisees! Because in the case of the Mass, this is place where we go to receive the grace to be all those Godly things.
