I’ve been invited by a friend to attend Sunday mass at the Maronite Catholic Church he belongs to. Since this rite is in communion with Rome, does it satisfy my Sunday obligation?
Definitely and it will be a good experience. One thing, I believe the proper term is Divine Liturgy and not Mass.I’ve been invited by a friend to attend Sunday mass at the Maronite Catholic Church he belongs to. Since this rite is in communion with Rome, does it satisfy my Sunday obligation?
Eastern Rite.Is Maronite an Eastern Rite in the west or is it a Western Rite that’s not Latin?![]()
I live in an area where there are many Maronite families. There is a Maronite church and a very popular Maronite shrine, which has all kinds of activities going on and is popular with the Latin Rite Catholics also. But we have Maronite families registered in our parish because they live in the area and they want to send their children to a Catholic school. I see them in church sometimes. I don’t know, but they must be supporting both parishes financially somehow. It must be tough for some of them.It satisfies the Sunday obligation and it satisfies the soul. The Liturgy is very reverent. The “words of institution” are chanted in Aramaic; Communion is by intinction - not in the hand. The Rite originated in Syria; the Patriarch and the majority of members are in Lebanon; Because many Lebanese people emmigrated there are Maronite eparchies (dioceses) in the U.S. (2), Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Australia as well as throughout the mideast. Unfortunately Maronite churches are few and far between in most states. There are only two in Virginia where I live.
