Before this thread veered-off in its “new direction” (and as such it probably should be split), I [post=6916579]mentioned[/post] that this practice is a latinization. What I did not say was that it was forced. It wasn’t. The same is true for a variety of other devotions. It was adopted and adapted by the Maronites, as were the others devotions as well. None (with the exception of the rosary which, BTW, is also used by the Chaldeans, and (whether they want to admit it or not) by some Byzantines and, I believe by the Syro-Malabars) exists in exactly the same form as in the Roman Rite. This is also the case in general with the various latinized devotions in the Chaldean Church. While I’m not a particular fan of any of those devotions, at the same time I don’t rant and rail against them, with one proviso: that they are done as a compliment to our own traditions and in lieu of them.Maybe the maronites like the first friday devotion? Maybe they want to do it of their own free will?
