The leader of the Maronite Catholic Church has announced plans for a meeting of “all Orthodox and Catholic Patriarchs of the Middle East, to promote unity among Christians and deal with the problems and suffering that we share in this difficult moment in history."
Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai, who is in Rome for the coming papal conclave, told the Fides news service that the patriarchs will form an important network of ecumenical leaders, as a support system for the embattled Christians of the region.
The Lebanese prelate himself has been taking the lead in ecumenical outreach. He attended the enthronement of Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II in Egypt earlier this month; he had previously been the only other patriarch attending the installation of Greek-Orthodox Patriarch Yohanna X Yazigi in Damascus.

“The opportunity to return to a complete unity,” Patriarch Rai explains to Fides “is studied at high levels. Meanwhile, we can live communion at a concrete level of the evangelical proclamation and sharing of social, charitable and cultural initiatives. We are talking about concrete ecumenism, without much talking. It is ecumenism that many baptized are already living in their daily lives.”
Very interesting. I hope his work bears good fruit, and much of it.

That is not true, Patriarch Gregorios III also was attending the installations of both Patriarch John X and Pope Tawadros II.

Hopefully some good ol’ fashioned Oriental liturgical and theological sensibility will rub off on His Beatitude in his interaction with his brother patriarchs. (Or at least none of our current corruptions will rub off on them… )

Not that it’s particularly likely, but one can always hope. 😉

I am not disputing your claim but for the record, the authors of that article made that statement, not me. The manner in which you quoted it makes it appear as if that was my idea.

Peace,

I apologize if I sounded that way. I know you were quoting the article, and I did not accuse you of the statement. I just wanted to make that little fact known, and I should mention this to the authors to fix the article.

God Bless

No worries on my end. I figured that was what happened but I wanted to clarify it in case others come along and see the thread later.

Peace of Christ,
