Maronite Qorbono Question

I realized in the Roman Church the response changed for may the lord be with you, " and with your spirit "

Now I haven’t been to a Maronite Parish in a while due to it being hours away, now I remember the response in the church was peace be with you, and also with you.

Did the Maronites ever change there responses to " and with your spirit " also? Did the Holy Qorbono change at all since the Roman Rite mass did?

I believe at the moment, the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn had a lot of time invested into a new translation, and there has been talks in the parish of it. So at some point in the near future a new translation will be coming out. Keep in mind the words in Aramaic (the accesses to the altar, and consecration, etc, will not be changed, only the modified english parts which some priests may feel needs to be re-translated, to more accurately fit the original language of the Liturgy of Saint James.

Yes. It has been changed in the new missal and, at least in the Brooklyn Eparchy, priests are free to implement this change immediately.

I thought it was the people’s part that is changing. (Et cum spiritu tuo…Credo, etc.)

But I certainly didn’t go to the Maronite liturgy to hear the English. The Syriac is awesome.

There was a revision of the official texts by the Synod around seven years ago. They are just getting around to translating that revision now. So everything is changing, clergy and people’s parts alike.
 
Thank you all for your replies, is there any links or atleast a missal I can buy for the New Maronite Translation?
 
Actually, the new English translation does not more accurately fit the original. It does, however, reflect the Arabic version of the 2005 missal, which itself does not accurately represent the original. For example, we have the proliferation of “soft language” where “children” is substituted for the “servants” in the original, etc. It’s certainly true-to-form in the ICEL style, but it exists just that way in the Arabic version and is not something unique to the English translation. What the new English translation does is (a) introduce the revised language for those things common to all (“and with your spirit” the Creed, etc) which is a favorable development, and (b) introduce a rather slavish rendition in English of the Arabic version, which is not. Even where the Arabic version of the 2005 missal remained unchanged from its 1992 counterpart, the English has now been adjusted to agree with the Arabic version and not the original Syriac (and often the English is very clumsy to say the least).

I will refrain from further addressing the missal itself except to say that, apparently, some people continue to insist there was no Novus Ordo-inspired neo-latinization at work either in the 1992 version or, more especially, in the 2005 version. Yeah, right. :rolleyes:

Anyway, and FWLIW, this will be my only comment in this thread.
