I’m aware that this must’ve been asked quite a few times in this subforum, but it’s been quite difficult for me to find any reasonable enough conclusion on what is the authentic West Syriac tradition regarding this issue. I’ve been to a Syriac Orthodox service, and most of it was with the priest ad orientem, as would be expected by most. However, I’ve seen sources such as this one, giving out a, we may say, more revisionist claim, while you have this very good description of the liturgy under “Orientation of the Celebrant at the Altar” claiming that, while the altar must be free-standing, the tradition is indeed for the priest to face East. Anyone here knows of a primary source, or just a more trustworthy work, that may help to solve this question?
