I don’t know where to start???
My wife and I argue rarely, however we argue about the same things. This has been going on for 10 years. On Nov. 1 things blew up. She said some things that really hurt. I’m convinced that the only Real Love, the Only TRUE love, is the Love that God has for us. Everything else is just an Illusion. We’re not suppose to love the temporal things of this world. Honestly, I hate this world.
My only Hope, my only Trust, my only Love, is with God. Father, Son, and Spirit. i love my wife, but the adoration i once had for her is gone.
She has a very good job and makes 3 times more than I do. This she throws up in my face every arguement.
Recently I went back to school. I won’t graduate 'till Spring 2010. I was working part time. But since there was no threat of me working OverTime they had me work 8 or 9am to 10 or 11pm on weekends. I was getting no school work done. My grades were slipping. You need to keep a 75% in every class to remain in the program. It’s a very intense medical program and I have a limited science background so my classess are VERY hard for me.
Anyway, It was my wife’s Idea that i quit the job. She said that we’ll just tighten the belts for 5 semesters and we would be fine. i guess she forgot the tighten the belts part. She continued spending as usual, then when we were Broke it was my Fault for not working. That led to the Huge fight we had.
i have issues with woman to began with. My mother was an abusive woman. Told me I would never amount to anything. That i was a No good Lousy S.O.B. (that last part about the S.O.B.) I always agreed. That no woman would ever want me, etc. then to hear things like this from my wife? It has devasted me. I even told her that she should take a soup ladle and beat me over the head with it, then i could tell Mom i married a woman just like her.
Anyway, i want to go to marraige counseling. My wife refuses. The Church has this “Retroville”) I think?) for people with problem marriaiges. We can’t afford regular Counseling, well, that’s according to my Wife. If anyone has been here, How did it go?
During the semester i was able to close the door in the spare room and study. Now that the semester is over I have to deal with my wife. We havn’t argued since 11/1, but the level of trust is NOT there.
If we had not taken vows in the Church in front of God and our families and friends, I’d be long gone.

Well, any advice would be helpful.

God Bless! Merry Christmas!

:signofcross: Heavenly Father, we pray for JustReturned. We earnestly come before your throne seeking your help. You have written that the “two should become as one flesh” in a marriage; but that seems to broken down. We know that Satan comes to steal and destroy a marriage; while God comes to restore and sanctify marriages and His people. Work a miracle, call them both to you; wrap your arms of love around them; pour out healing, comfort, forgiveness and deep peace on both of them. Give him a supernatural love for his wife. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen

Hi JustReturned!!! God’s word tells us that we are all sinners and come short of the Glory of God. There are times my wife and I are at odds and (in reflection) those are the times that I need to submit more and more to God to keep that right relationship with him - so that I can love her more. I’m thinking of Hosea - the Old Testament prophet - who had an unfaithful wife and yet God used Hosea and the situation as an example of faithfulness on his part (and as an example of how God still loves us, even when we have been unfaithful to him).

I will be praying for the two of you that God can work in this situation. My bias is that as a Sacrament, marriage is a divine activity and to break that Sacrament is not advised. Do talk to a priest - do pray for her - and we too pray for you!!!

I regret that you had emotional abuse from your mother. I understand that this affects a person’s perceptions. There are, you know, many women who are supportive and genuinely loving. Your mother may have been fearful and stressed, but that isn’t much comfort to a young person who is hurting at the hands of someone who should live him most. I know I loved and love my sons enormously. Can’t help it. But for some, stresses and problems cloud their love.

We aren’t supposed to hate this temporal world, which is a beautiful creation of God, and God’s gift to us. We shouldn’t be so attached that we forget to love God above and and others as ourselves (which is also a command by Jesus to love ourselves (rightly, not selfishly). We are not meant to be so hurt, so lonely, so angry, as to hate our life, but it happens.

It’s natural that the arguments and the sense of injustice you feel, leading to natural resentment has affected your feelings. In any case, feelings ebb and flow. Adoring someone…noone’s that perfect that we can be blinded enough to adore them. Love has to develop with understanding of the best and the worst in each other.

Your wife’s attitude seems unfair as she can’t sustain the charity she tried to reach for in encouraging you in your studies. It is at present an unequal relationship, with you feeling inadequate and she feeling resentful. If she won’t agree to counselling you cant force her…but have you tried continuing to show little appreciative signs or word to your wife, in trying to keep affection alive between you, or do you only allow her to feel your pain…which won’t help your relationship.
The spending is a problem…Her resentment and your resentment is.

I will keep you both in my prayers and daily Masses

What about you just going to counseling if your wife refuses? You may find it will help your marriage a great deal and who knows?–maybe your wife will decide to go too when she sees how much it is helping you! 👍 🙂

Is it possible to get a different part time job that won’t put as much pressure on your school work but will get DW off your back?

www.retrouvaille.org It works. I know, it saved my marriage. If you both have any thoughts of saving this marriage, and go into it with even a little bit of an open heart, it will help immensely. It teaches new communication skills, which it sounds like you are both in severe need of. I’ll pray for you both. :crossrc:

Thank you for the Prayer. I felt the holy Spirit Stir inside my soul.
I’m truly touched. I deeply believe in Prayer. God is Faithful.
Thank you.

Thank you all so much for replying.
I’ve been looking for a job. I’m praying that I can find one that can work around my school scheduale.
I think that I can get some free counseling at School and I’m praying that my wife will go to counseling at retrouvaille.

God Bless you all and Merry Christmas!!
