On no. Don’t bet on it. Hard to believe isn’t it?
Its not hard to believe, because it isn’t true. Cite your sources…you can’t, because there aren’t any. It is absolutely incorrect. Infertile people can indeed marry validly.

This is absolutely incorrect.
no it is not true, please search out the actual canon, which is that in order to receive the sacrament of matrimony the individual must be able to perform the marriage act. Look up a good medical dictionary to understand the difference between infertile and impotent.

Wait, lots of negatives so I am not sure we all understand.

I understand that someone who is impotent cannot validly marry. But the poster said INFERTILE.

And infertile people can indeed validly marry in the church.

Here is the canon:
Can. 1084 §1. Antecedent and perpetual impotence to have intercourse, whether on the part of the man or the woman, whether absolute or relative, nullifies marriage by its very nature.

§2. If the impediment of impotence is doubtful, whether by a doubt about the law or a doubt about a fact, a marriage must not be impeded nor, while the doubt remains, declared null.

§3. Sterility neither prohibits nor nullifies marriage, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 1098. (which has to do with deception)

So essentially, all that matters is that the act of intercourse can be done to completion, correct?

(Please pardon my crude summary.)

Oh. I see. Well; that’s good. I stand corrected and I am happy to be so. Thank you for that.

Infertile people may not be married in the Roman Catholic Church.
This is not true.

Those who are impotent - and will remain this way - may not validly marry.

The infertile may marry, as long as they remain open to children. God has a track record for bring life to infertile couples, remember John the Baptist? Remember Isaac?

Hmm I donlt really think though that using the be fruitful and multiply command is a good argument. The commandment was given when there was basically no people on the earth. So if we hadn;t procreated we would have died out really quick. Now well not so much. Not to mention why make some people infertile? On that note doesn;t the Catholic church allow infertile people to marry? If marriage is all about fulfilling that commandment then shouldn;t infertile people not be allowed to marry?
God did not put an expiration date on that commandment -

Infertility is part of our imperfect bodies, the result of original sin.

The Church does not require physically perfection in order to marry, just the ability to complete the act of intercourse.

Yes, yes and yes.

YYY

Well I am not saying that the commandment has totally expired as in no one has to procreate now. But I guess I am just dubious of the claim that the commandment expands to all married couples. In fact I have even heard the commandment explained as more as a blessing to procreate rather then an actual command. But who knows maybe one day I will get a chance to ask God myself. 😛

Hi, some people, if married in the Catholic Church cut out that vow, leaving
it wide open for any contraceptives & a childless life & marriage.

The vow is:

‘Will you accept children lovingly from God?’

The response is

‘We will’

It’s a very big deal, it plays a huge part of the vows in marriage, because children
are designed by God, designed for love, & if one rejects children, they are
in turn are rejecting Love - God is love!

Peace!

Xoxo
