A successful marriage requires two things, in my humble opinion.
- A firm decision based upon God. To enter into marriage is a decision, a commitment, something that cannot change. It is like a rough cinderblock home. It is strong, able to withstand a lot. However, a cinderblock home with nothing over it is not very attractive.
- Love. This second aspect of marriage is like the nice brick facade on the outside of the cinderblock home. It makes a marriage beautiful, plus it provides protection… the cinderblocks are never buffetted by rain or sleet. It is harder for the cinderblock to crack when it is covered with the facade of brick. Obviously a marriage cannot work with just love… just like a home with just a facade would quickly fall. But love, firmly attached to the decision, can last a lifetime.
