I am a person with scurpulosity and also catholic. My question is, is it a sin to sexually satisfy your husband with use of sexual toys and fantisies when it only involves my husband and myself. Thankyou hope you can ansewr this one

It’s tough to answer a question like that without specifics - and we do NOT want any specifics. This is an area where prudential judgement and communication with your partner would need to guide you here. As well, you may want to speak with your priest. Now, if you are not comfortable describing these acts to a priest, perhaps that is a sign you should take note of.

The primary and essential end of marital relations is the completion of the act within the woman in accord with natural law. I do not believe (but would love clarification) that the use of “toys” is intrinsically sinful. But, if those items are intended to replace the true sexual act, rather than increase foreplay, they would not be appropriate. As well, if the toys attack the dignity each of you has as children of God, their use would be unacceptable as well. I would say, if it is something you feel you wouldn’t want your parents, or children, to eventually know you had done, it most-likely is an afront to that dignity…

The same would hold true with fantasies. Role-playing, within the realms of dignity, could be acceptable, provided both parties are willing, and the actions are meant in fun, as a way to increase intimacy before intercourse.

No I dont think it is sinful because it is between my self and my husband . Are there sexual acts that are conisered sinful between a husband and wife?

Yes, there are. Any act that is contraceptive, such as the use of a condom, pill, IUD and other foreign means used to prevent conception, are, as the catechism notes, intrinsically evil. Stimulation of the husband to climax without “finishing” the act within the wife is not acceptable, if the intent was to not engage in intercourse. Sometimes, things happen fast, and mistakes do happen, but the intent of stimulation must be to complete physically united with you genitally.

the idea that a husband must finish inside the wife is so ridiculous. Finishing inside the wife is not required for a woman to get pregnant. Pre-ejaculate often contains sperm, and therefore can impregnate a woman. Otherwise, pulling out would be a reliable form of birth control.

Pope Pius XII taught: “The Creator Himself…established that in the [generative] function, spouses should experience pleasure and enjoyment of body and spirit. Therefore, the spouses do nothing evil in seeking this pleasure and enjoyment. They accept what the Creator has intended for them. At the same time, spouses should know how to keep themselves within the limits of just moderation” quoted in The Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2362). The question is: “Is oral sex as foreplay ‘within the limits of just moderation’?” There are reasons to maintain that it is not and is therefore damaging to true marital love.

But that has no bearing on the legitimacy of the rule, does it?

By that logic, it also would be morally acceptable to self-pleasure, freeze and ship the sperm across the globe, and set the frozen sperm on a woman until it melted. Hardly seems in line with the unitive intention of intercourse…

God has given us the gift of sexual intercourse both as a means to “get pregnant”, as well as a way for a married couple to grow closer. This is not my opinion, but rather the teaching of the Catholic Church - and was the teaching of virtually all Christian churches until the 1920s.
