Marriage and the ability to be a Youth Minister you ask what do they have to do with each other. Well today I had a conversation with the Youth Minister Director of the Parish I attend. I wanted to become part of the Youth Ministry.
I am a practicing Catholic and finally after many years of conversation my Wife has decided to go into RCIA. She starts in September.
The question I have is that we have not had a convalidation of our marriage. I have started the process but it can take months.
I was told that I could not be a Youth Minister until I am in fullness with the Church. I was very confused by her statement. If I am not in fullness with the Church then I should take part in the Eucharist. After all the ability to take part in the Eucharist is the prime example of fullness.
Has anyone ever been denied the ability to take part in a ministry because of their marriage being not recognized by the Church? The exception to this rule would be the Permanent Deacon.
I submit to the authority of the Church and if this is Law then I will wait until my the process of convalidation is complete. However if this is not based on anything other than an opinion of an individual the I need advice on moving forward as I would like to be involved with multiple ministries of the Church.
