Same sex unions are taking place in non-Catholic Church’s. Some Anglican and some Lutheran non-Catholic Church’s consider these same sex unions conducted in their non-Catholic Church’s as a valid marriage by two validly baptized Christians.

I am guilty as charged of the Nitpick in order to justify the diverse subject matter of non-Catholic marriages, which the CCC does not address in our present age.

There is no such thing as a same sex marriage as far as the Catholic Church is concerned so any time the word ‘marriage’ comes up it involves only one man and one woman.

But which the Catholic Church does not recognized as marriage which by definition only involves one man and one woman. It doesn’t matter what label the other ecclesial communities put on them, only a marriage between a man and a woman is recognized as valid by the Catholic Church.

They might also consider it a sacrament when twice-married-and-divorced Sally weds thrice-married-and-divorced George. However, if Sally and George wanted to become Catholic, their marriage would not be recognized until and unless a tribunal could determine that their previous marriages were all invalid. Their ceremony in the church down the street didn’t create a valid marriage.

Similarly, if Jim and Tom have a ceremony in the church down the street, it does not create a valid marriage. In order for a marriage to be sacramental it must be a) valid and b) between two baptized Christians.

It must effect the reality it signifies. The physical is an inseparable part of the “mysterion”.

No Lutheran ecclesial community is a true Church. Protestants have lost the faith and deny the Eucharist. A community without the Eucharist cannot be a Church.

Your excellent post makes a great point to the already reality existing among the non-Catholic church’s which these secondary, third, fourth marriages conducted in non-Catholic Church’s are not sacramental according to the Catholic Church’s teaching. Never mind the example of same sex unions recognized by non-Catholic Church’s as a marriage taken place in contradiction to what the Catholic Church consider a sacramental marriage.

Catholics are not immune to your multiple marriages taking place, which are not considered sacramental.

Your post also hints at how sacred and holy the Catholic church holds holy matrimony in the highest esteem between a man and a woman in the eyes of God.

When non-Catholic Church’s and secularism abuse the sacredness of holy matrimony between a man and a woman, with civil, same sex unions, natural unions are easily subject to divorce and the breaking up of families.

Many of the European Lutheran Churches never lost the historic episcipate. That is a fact of history.
