A covenant says “Love One another…”

A contract says “Love another One…”

For elwills benefit, here is one example of a marriage covenant practiced by God and the prophet Hosea in the bible.

  Gods idea of a marriage covenant is depicted in the life of this prophet.  God made this mans life a living example on how we should Honor our commitment, remain steadfast and endure in spite of the unfavorable circumstances.
Hosea, which means Salvation, is the name of a notable 8th century B.C. prophet. Hosea lived during a time when Jeroboam II reigned. It was a time of anxiety and fear amongst the nations, yet, a time of great material prosperity. Hosea was a prophet in the land of Israel.

The most important task of Hosea was to bring to mind to the rebellious Israel its obligations under the covenant made at Sinai. Hosea reminded Israel that they had made an agreement with God for loyalty to Him, to surrender to Him and to obey His commands. God told Israel that by doing this they would become his son by divine adoption and grace. God gave this freely to Israel but Israel forgot the covenant and Hosea saw the importance of bringing to remembrance to the Nation their pact with God. Israel had a free relationship with God requiring simply their acceptance and co-operation to God. Hosea went before the people and stressed to them that they were actually the bride of God, using the metaphor of marriage to show the relationship God desired with the Israelites.

Hosea’s own personal life and marriage became a parable for all people to witness. Hosea was commanded by God to marry a woman that would eventually turn unfaithful to him. She would later became a prostitute. In spite of this, it was God’s way for Hosea to show how God would manifest patience and love to his people by remaining faithful to his wife .

After Hosea’s wife ended her adulterous ways she was brought back into his house and eventually restored to full favor with Hosea. This acceptance and forgiveness by Hosea showed the representation of disobedient Israel and its relationship with God. It showed that God’s love and forgiveness was forever and always binding. Moral of the story: A marriage covenant has a policy of “No Return, No exchange” .

Who says its okay. Not the God of Abraham, the same God you claim that you follow. Divorce is not a normal thing. It has always been and always will be wrong in the eyes of God.

I have come across Muslims who openly admit this (being worldly) except that they say the message is from Allah (divine).

They will tell you Islam is a practical religion – something that people can follow and not contradict so much to their thinking and preferred way of life. Thus it is impractical they say, Christian teaching of love and of turning the other cheek.

Similarly that is how they view marriage except of course they believe the principle of their marriage came from Allah. I have given examples on what can be expected in a Muslim marriage – an assertion that’s not repudiated by Elwill. It looks very worldly but since they believe it came from Allah and they abide by it, they logically can say that their marriage is a covenant. That’s why there is argument about whether Islamic marriage is a covenant or not.

Our question as the thrust of the OP I believe, is why their ‘covenant’ is so different from a Christian’s covenant? 🤷
 
Marriage is an unbreakable bond with God. If a marriage is valid no man may break the Holy union.
 
What Marriage is, is a Sacrament. An outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace.

What God has joined together let no man separate.
