I have family member who was married in the Church. He then divorced his wife and left the Church. He has not remarried and would like to return to the Church. Does he have to do anything special regarding his marriage and divorce to return to the Church? Thanks!

If he is living a celibate life and is not dating - he only needs to make a good solid confession and he’s back Home again! He is still considered to be married to his wife. A civil divorce does not dissolve a sacramental marriage.

The Church is so very good to us. 🙂

he has to see his priest for confession and for pastoral counselling on anything else. If he has not remarried and has no plans to do so there is no issue, assuming he is carrying out his responsibilities to his family. He is still a married man and should ask the priest if he has questions on how to conduct himself as such.
