Yeah I see what you mean. This life was made for a reason and it is connected to the afterlife. It would be a sad reality if in heaven, any stranger would be the same to you as someone you dearly loved on earth. God made you meet the people you met for a reason. We are all families within families within the giant human family and in heaven we will all be brothers and sisters, but in my soul I know that any relationship started on earth will be so much more special in heaven.Does the same apply parent/child relationships? You could have the same complications if a child’s parents die, and then is adopted by other parents. Who would be their parents be in heaven?
As much as I normally favor speaking accurately, I don’t think we need to go around referring to widows’ dead spouses as “former.” My grandparents were married 64 years before my grandfather died 4 years ago. My grandmother still wears her wedding band and signs every birthday card to me, “Love, Grandpa and Grand-mom.” She had her named engraved on the gravestone when she had his done because she just didn’t want to think about him laying in the ground alone. I could just imagine getting kicked out of her house for the sake of theological accuracy. I would not refer to him as her former husband any more than I would refer to him as my former Grandpa.
