The Catholic Faith is built like a 3 legged stool consisting of Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Magesterium. Without one or more legs the stool would tip over and fall. Sacred Tradition started out as the oral teachings of the church( the apostles and their appointees- that is why it is usually called Apostolic Tradition) but later included the New Testament as the gospels and other were written.rick43235 said:Yes, I understand that the Catholic Church is not a Bible only church, and I am aware of the concept of Sacred Tradition (although maybe I don’t understand Sacred Tradition as well as I should.) In his post above, Aaron I. stated Since the concept of annulments does not seem to come from scripture, I’m assuming that it comes from Sacred Tradition - that is, it comes from the Catholic Church, making it a “Catholic rule.”
Now, maybe this is where my less-than-perfect understanding of Sacred Tradition comes into play. According to Catholic teaching, is Sacred Tradition considered to be on “equal footing” with Sacred Scripture? Where does Sacred Tradition come from?
Thanks for stepping in here.
