sorry if I put this in the wrong forum. I am new to this site and didn’t know where it went
My husband and I were married ten years ago by a Protestant minister. I am a cradle Catholic and he was Methodist. We were young and in love and wanted to get married ASAP, so we didn’t wait to go through the church to get married. When I said my vows, I meant them, I feel my marriage is not only legal, but valid in the eyes of God. I now find out that the church believes that I am living in mortal sin and can not receive communion until I get married through the church. I am very upset that the church doesn’t see my marriage as valid. Why does it matter if I said my vows to a priest or a minister? From my understanding the priest is merely a witness anyway. I do not want to go back and get married through the church because I do not believe that God views my marriage any differently than if we are married through the church.
