I am a practising cradle Catholic and I married another Catholic in a Methodist Church by a female Methodist minister because my wife’s visa would have run out and we didn’t have the time to take the nessisary courses the Catholic Church requires.

We are now getting divorced. If I remarry, can I get married in a Catholic Church(after doing penance for all my sins related to my first “marriage”) and be in full standing since the church didn’t recognize my first marriage?

You were never actually married! Your wedding would not be recognized as valid under the circumstances you descibe.

Seek the guidance of a priest who will probably tell you to go to confession and confess the sin of fornication. Then you will be able to be properly married in the Church.

P.S. I know, my wife and I were married civilly and after coming back to our faith, we were then married in the Church on our fifth anniversary.

You have an invalid marriage due to lack of form. If you did not convalidate the marriage at any point, you should be able to complete the lack of form paperwork and be free to marry.

Go see your priest.

The others have posted good responses … especially if you never had your marriage blessed by the church as noted …

This time, do not rush into the marriage, take care to fullly understand the sacrament …

God Bless, as a fellow christian with a previously failed marriage I have empathy with you … I needed more than just a lack of form …

My marriage [a sacramental reality] is such a gift … if I had only known then - I could have saved myself and others so much hrt and harm 😦 - but we live and learn and at some point let God work in our lives - when we love God and humble oursellves before Jesus we are able to love others so much better 👍
