Marriage Outside of Mass

I’m curious as to what a marriage outside of mass is like. I’ve been to many Catholic weddings (all relatives), but they were all in the context of a mass. I’ve heard that a marriage outside mass takes place in the Liturgy of the Word, but does this include things like the penetential rite, Gloria, and Credo? I poked about online and found conflicting information.

I’ve been to a couple celebrations like this in the past and if I remember correctly, it consists of Liturgy of the Word, Homily, Prayers, exchange of vows and its done… no communion.
 
Ah, okay - so the Gloria is included, but no penetential rite. I was really mostly wondering what musical parts in the beginning of mass are included, since most sources just say “Liturgy of the Word Service.”

No, the gloria is not part of the rite of marriage, unless done on a certain feast day.

The penitential rite can be used.

if you choose to do flowers to mary, there can be a good marian song too.

Ah, okay - one of the sites provided above mentioned use of the Gloria, which confused me.

I’m asking this is because if I continue my relationship with my girlfriend to the point of marriage, we would have to have a wedding outside of mass, since she is not Catholic. I’m curious, then, as to how exactly such a ceremony goes.

It rather saddens me that I can’t have the Gloria as it is one of my favorite hymns, especialy in Latin. Of course, it saddens me more than I can’t have the Eucharist at my wedding - but I already knew that before starting this thread.
 
First of all, thinking about the wedding ceremony this far in advance is probably not wise.

Concentrate on discernment of your relationship. There are countless threads here about mixed marriages…you will find that there is SOOO much heartache… It’s not impossible, but it is very very difficult.

If you are Catholic and the person you marry is baptized, you may still have a Mass, depending on many circumstances, especially the conversation with the priest.

I have played a gloria at a wedding before… talk to the priest.

But first…make sure this is the person God is calling you to marry. Stop thinking about the wedding.
