Marriage Question (Two become one?)

Question for you guys…

So I was talking to a friend and I was told that “When you are married, since we believe in the sacrament two become one, when you die, you are judged as ONE unit.”

Aka… Jack and Jill either both get a passing grade or both get a failing grade.

Whatever the answer is, does anybody have any sources to back up either a yes or a no? Thank you

A marriage is unbreakable until death, then the two persons become separate again. By no means do any two humans get judged as one unit.

I do not have solid sources for you, as I don’t have time, but I’m sure someone else will come along with something more substantial.

Mattew 22:30 “For in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be married; but shall be as the angels of God in heaven.”

There are other scriptures verses, that I can’t quote off the top of my head that state that we will be called to account for OUR deeds. We can not be judged based on someone elses actions.

That being said, because of the close intimacy between husband and wife, we should also do our best to keep not only ourselves united with Christ, but our spouses as well. We CAN be held responsible in some manner when we know someone else is commiting a sin and we either do nothing about it or say nothing about it if it is in our power to possibly help them avoid a serious sin.

When he comes at the end of time to judge the living and the dead, the glorious Christ will reveal the secret disposition of hearts and will render to each man according to his works, and according to his acceptance or refusal of grace.

that’s correct. People will be judged seperately. However, ones position to the other can play a part in the salvation, where the Bible also speaks about. Jesus says something like when a man and woman are one, the sins of the women can be washed away because of the marriage. But i’m not sure WHERE he says that.

Jesus says something like when a man and woman are one, the sins of the women can be washed away because of the marriage. But i’m not sure WHERE he says that.

Whoa there, cowboy!

It’s not that ‘marriage washes away sins’, though! It’s only that the marriage is the context through which a person may come to Jesus and be sanctified! As an example: let’s suppose I want to be a football hero. So, I go out and buy a uniform, and a ball with a team logo, and a spiffy pair of shoes. It’s not the kit that makes me a star athlete, though: on the other hand, if possessing these things motivates me to go and make my dream come true, then we could say that my stardom happened through the purchase of the uniform – but we’d never say that it happened by it! Same thing here: some may be sanctified through marriage, but never directly by it…!
