Hi
Can someone tell me if someone can get remarried by a priest that isn’t catholic?
We are coming up on our 25th anniversary and I would love to get remarried on our anniversary this year But we both are not Catholic but I want to be.

This is an odd question. Are you still married? You can’t get remarried if you’re already married, but you can renew your vows. If you want to have your marriage recognized by the Catholic Church, you need to become Catholic first. You said you want to be, so go talk to a Catholic priest.

You probably will not be able to become Catholic before your anniversary. Normally this is done around Easter, though exceptions can be made. Again, talk to a Catholic priest.

Otherwise, talk to a pastor in the church or denomination you were married in.

How can a priest not be Catholic? Anyone can marry you a justice of the peace etc…but it needs to be blessed by your parish priest. And only if your Catholic.

First, you cannot get “remarried” as has been pointed out. And, I’m not sure what you mean by “a priest that isn’t Catholic.” What would the purpose of this be?

Your question is a little vague.

Is your husband Catholic? Are you in RCIA to become a Catholic?
 
Perhaps he means can someone who is not Catholic have their marriage vows renewed by a Catholic priest?
 
I meant we wont to renew our vows but we want a priest to perform the service.

Bren, were you originally married in the Catholic Church, even though you are not (yet) a Catholic? If so, then there would be no difficulty in renewing your marriage vows during a Mass - this is usually done during a daily Mass.

Call the priest at your local parish and ask him. Also express your interest in becoming a Catholic.

I meant that we are not catholic . not the priest.

We were just married by the justice of the peace.
I would love to become catholic. Right now I’m unable to. I called about the RCIA classes but I’m unable to attend them. My mother moved in with us two years ago and I have to be here 24/7 to watch her. There are just my husband and myself that are here to stay with her. she is in real bad health. I hope to be able to attend them one day. I was baptized Baptist and I have given this a great deal of thought over the years and I believe with all my heart that I should become Catholic.
I’m sorry all for all the mistypes and misunderstands. I have to type and run to check on Mom and I’m cooking her supper at the same time. I’m sorry If I confused anyone.

I believe the only way to become Catholic is to attend RCIA classes. Pray and God will help you acheive this. I will pray for your mother also.

For a baptized person, this is not true. The priest can receive a baptized person into full communion.

I meant from another religion. If she was baptized as a Baptist, a priest won’t receive her in full communion.

I think at least one of you needs to be Catholic and then you can have your marriage convalidated.

Are either of you close to Confirmation?

If not, I think a priest could say a blessing over you until you are confirmed as Catholics.

Say what now? I was baptized as a baptist, and a priest received me into full communion :confused:
