Hello,

My wife’s niece is getting married. She was baptised as a Catholic but never attended CCD or was confirmed. She was raised in a non-religion practicing family She is Marrying a Catholic fellow (nice kid). Of course they are more concerned about a “pretty” wedding and great reception etc. and not so concerned about the Sacramental element.

DOesn’t a baptised Catholic have to be confirmed to have a Catholic wedding?
When I heard they were getting married I was quite happy she was Marrying this young man. But I was very shocked that they were allowed to have their wedding in the big beautiful Catholic church of which Neither family is a member of.

Canon 1065 §1 Catholics who have not yet received the sacrament of confirmation are to receive
it before being admitted to marriage, if this can be done without grave inconvenience.
§2 So that the sacrament of marriage may be fruitfully received, spouses are earnestly
recommended that they approach the sacraments of penance and the blessed Eucharist.

I guess you would have to decide what grave inconvenience is. I’m thinking that its not really enforced too much.
