my husband and i have been married for over 35 years. when we married i was baptist and he was a non-practicing catholic. we were married by my pastor and i raised my children in the baptist church. i recently realized that i was missing something in my spiritual life and have been attending rcia classes since september. i have found what i was missing in my spiritual life - love of the church and it’s teachings! now my question. my husband has not attended church throughout our marriage and will likely not attend in the future, how will this affect my becoming a catholic?

Talk to the priest in the parish where you are attending RCIA. Your marriage will need to be convalidated or sanated, your priest can guide you through what needs to happen.

The fact that your husband doesn’t live his Catholic faith does not prevent your becoming Catholic. Your welcome into the Church isn’t dependent upon what your husband does.

Iaanc, my warmest welcome!..Trishie
A hug!

Glad to have you coming aboard. Keep us updated as your journey progresses.

Your husband’s being not being a practicing Catholic or not attending doesn’t affect your entering the church. You will need to have your marriage convalidated or sanated though as he did not marry in the church . So, make an appointment with the priest soon so they can plan this with you .
