i am going through a difficult time and just wondering if there are people here who got reconciled after separation… I have been praying for it and somehow i feel that God has said yes to my prayer…
just wondering if anyone has had it happen to them or know of anything that should be done?

Mariam,

A dear friend of mine was in such a bad place in her marriage that she was ready to file for divorce and they were living in seperate homes. She claims that prayer and Retrouvaille saved her marriage, and I believe she’s correct. This was years ago.

My prayers to heal my marriage were not answered the way I had hoped, but I believe there is hope for any couple that wants to keep trying! God wants marriages to succeed! I’m praying with you!

edited to add: If you have any doubts about continuing down the seperation path, swallow your pride even if you’ve been wronged and ASK your spouse about the possibility of continuing to work it out. Then you will know in your heart that you’ve done everything you can. Then pray and let God take care of you both.

unfortunately my husband does not want to keep trying. He is not ready to reconcile… 😦

That was the situation with my friend, and she prayed that he would attend Retrouvaille with her. She tells me that he attended grudgingly to appease her but that, afterward, he was more motivated to fix the problems than she was!

i have asked him about reconciling and even asked his forgiveness for everything that i have done to hurt him… but he is not willing at all…

I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s good that you’ve asked forgiveness and put the possibility of reconciliation out there…it might take root. You can’t control anything but your own actions, but you can still ask God to help bring you the right resolution.

I’m sorry I don’t have more heartening advice for you, and I don’t know why God answers prayers the way He does sometimes. But I can promise you that you will feel peace in the future because you made reconciling an option.

Would your husband consider speaking with a priest?

You’re in my prayers every day,
cecilia

the priest did speak to him but he was very adamant… later on the priest let it go as he said that there was no point in talking to him… also since he was a very active member of the church the priest did not want to make any waves because of the marriage not working out… the priest still wanted him around the church for the work being done by him…

Oh, I can’t say anything nice about your priest. Are you taking these concerns to someone at the parish, or another priest, or family?

hugs

although an elder couple at the church was involved in this, who tried their level best but nothing happened. There is no other priest involved and I dont want to antagonize him further as I know that he would be very angry if I took things further… after all, the way I looked at it is if my marriage is over, what is the point in isolating him from the church?
maybe someday some teaching in the church could get him to understand this better…

Hang in there, keep praying and something will work out. Be prepared for anything- for it not to work out, for reconciliation because you never know what God has in store for you. But pray with faith- I saw this message while surfing the net:

We need to learn to persevere because it is written on Ecclesiasticus 2,15-16, “Woe to them that are fainthearted, who believe not God; Woe to them that have lost patience” and James says, “But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind; for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” ( James 1,6-8).

Prayer is man’s strength which shakes the heart of God because “nothing is more powerful than a man who prays” (St. John Chrisostomus) for they are participating in God’s power.
James tell us again, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly” (James 4,3) and St. Basilius says, “If you have asked and did not receive, is because you have asked wrongly, with no faith or superficially or you have asked something you did not needed or because you have abandoned the prayer.”

“All graces we desire need to be asked to Mary, She provides everything we need” (St. Alphonsus of Ligori). “All gifts, virtues and graces are dispensed by Her hands to whom She wants, when She wants and how She wants” (St. Bernardin of Siena).

This really helped me to change my outlook…

My husband and I were separated years ago, for 9 months. A friend of mine organized a 9 hour novena, in which over 30 people took part, some of whom I barely knew. It was shortly after that that he came home.

On the other hand, he came home refusing to resolve anything, and I have recently discovered that he’s spent the past 13 years still having secret e-mails with a woman he was friends with at the time. I have no reason to believe him at this point when he insists it was an innocent friendship and he didn’t actually hide it.

So… yes, I believe prayer reunited us, but I’m not sure I understand why God bothered at this point. I’m not sure this marriage will ultimately survive. We are completely enmeshed in lies and deceptions. I don’t know what is true with him anymore.

I will pray for you.

I do believe that God does not want any marriage to end in divorce which is the reason why he brought the two of you together again. and this is proven by the fact that he came home after the novena was said.

Please do not give on the marriage… that is the mistake that i made because of my anger over something that was really not as important as the marriage.

I do have the strong feeling that it is going to be restored as God keeps giving me a sign whenever I ask for it… 🙂 something amazing happened. I found a book on Infant Jesus in the church on Tuesday and said the novena on wednesday thinking that God wanted me to. When nothing happened, I was so upset that I cried out to the Lord on Wednesday that please do not come back to me if this marriage is not to be restored!! Guess what happened… on Thursday while I was sitting in the church, a lady just came and handed me the Sacred Heart pamphlet and later on gave me the same Infant Jesus novena that I had just prayed the previous day. At that time, I did not realise it and just talked to her asking her to pray. When I went home and was praying to him, suddenly I realised that he had answered me!!

How amazing is that!!???

I feel your pain.
Unfortunately my wife feels the same as your husband.
I don’t know why people give up the way that they do.
I shall be praying for you and ask for your prayers also as I so want to save my marriage.

would you like to become mutual prayer warriors?
It is said that when two agree on earth, it is accepted by God in Heaven.
let me know so that we can coordinate and do novenas…

actually I gave up on the marriage first because of my anger… he was threatening to but had not done it yet!!!

Hey Mariam,

That is amazing! Don’t stop praying. Not that we should be asking for signs, because we should just have faith in God…but we are human…Keep at it.

Hi all,

My grandmother had given my dad a copy of the following prayer (at least I think that’s who he got it from)…

A Prayer to the Sacred Heart (In Difficulties)****
Almighty arms of Jesus before you I come with all my faith
Begging you for comfort in my difficult situation.
Do not forsake me, Good Jesus.
Open your doors in my way
That your almighty arms will open and close as you design,
To give me that tranquility that I so desire.
(Make your petitions for 3 difficulties)
Oh my God, receiving that supplication from a wounded heart
that is always fighting for life, With your divine power,
Never let me scramble for want of help
Almighty Jesus, assist me to find shelter in thy
Celestial Country ever.

Amen

Note: This prayer is so powerful you will get your request no matter how difficult your situation may be
This prayer starts on a Friday and must continue for 15 days
Make copies and give away for the spread of the devotion.
Each day light a candle while praying, then put it out.
After 15 days let it burn right out.
(only one candle to be used for the whole period).

Every little bit of prayer can help…

I was not asking for a sign ss828… i just cried out to the Lord in desperation not to come to me unless the marriage is to be restored… I didnt ask him to come to me… its just amazing how all the novenas that I have been praying for are suddenly manifesting in the church… today I found another one for the holy spirit…
I feel like something major is going to happen… Please pray for me… I also realised that jesus is trying to open the lines of communication… i received an email for my husband at my email id… I am going to send it to him… please pray that he responds kindly to it…

Mariam and darling ktp both,

I’m going to the Adoration chapel down the street in about fifteen minutes to offer a Rosary for your marriages and spouses.

Try not to feel like you have to fix everything yourselves. God will take care of you.

Thank you, Cecilia. In the past two months, maybe, I have finally been able to pray for him sincerely, and it has begun to allow me to feel that I don’t have to fix everything. Your words put it more clearly than I’d enunciated it to myself, though, and are very uplifting. I will pray for you, and Mariam and sandmountainsli, too.

Happy Sunday.
