C2003,

Does Vere have any information on Josephite marriages in 2005? If they are allowed, I’m sure that they are rare.

Great. Thanks for the web site. “Maria Valtorta says …” but what does the Church say about Josephite marriages? Do both or one of the parties have to be under a vow of consecration?

I’m not aware of any. You could probably email him and ask.

By his explanation, it would be possible for a couple going into the marriage intending to consumate it and be open to children, but who changed their mind after the wedding ceremony, to have a valid Josephite marriage. Other than that, it seems like intending to enter into a Josephite marriage would make that marriage invalid under current canon law.

Okay, so what about when the woman (me) has had to have a hysterectomy for dire medical reasons (no, there was no other way). Does that mean my marriage can’t be convalidated?

Not consumating a Marriage does not make it invalid! It is simply a non-ratified or non-consumated Marriage.

No, of course the Marriage could be convalidated. Sterility does not invalidate a Marriage, the inability to have normal human intercourse does however.

Yes, but the point is that under the 1983 canon law, entering into a marriage intending never to consumate it does make that marriage invalid.

I couldn’t tell you where I read this, but I seem to remember that when I first read something about this a while back there was some mention of a couple wanting a valid Josephite marriage needing to get a dispensation of sorts from the appropriate authority.
