I am engaged to a Catholic gentleman. This will be a second marriage for each of us. I am Protestant, he is Catholic. I am looking for a marriage retreat we can both share. Neither of us plans to convert but we still want a Christ centered marriage. Where can we go to learn how to blend our faiths and make this a strong marriage?

Your fiancee’s priest who is preparing you for marriage will direct you to the retreat that is offered by your Diocese.

“speed limit: 5 mph”

Slow down here. Do you both have a declaration of nullity from your previous marriage? If you do, then this will be your first (true) marriage. If you don’t, then you cannot by any means or authority under earth be married at all.

The only, and I mean ONLY case where there exists such a thing as a second marriage is when the first is fulfilled, namely that “til death do us part” has occured when a spouse dies.

So if you’re looking to have a strong, Christ centered marriage, the very first step is to discern if both of you are actually free to be married to each other.

He has a letter of nullity and I am a widow
I see! Then indeed, you can have a VERY Christ centered marriage!

Just wanted to make sure that you weren’t one of the very many who come on here asking why the church won’t look with favor on multiple marriages…

So, having discerned that… let me do a little research on the subject and I’ll get back to you shortly!

To help understand the Church’s view of marriage, read Fulton J. Sheen’s “Three To Get Married”.
