I am Catholic married to a former Catholic. What is the process of validating our marriage? Does it require a ceremony, another marriage license? Is it just a blessing? If anyone has gone through this I would really like some info!

I take it that when you say you are married to a former Catholic that it was not in the Church, before a priest or deacon. Is this correct or not? I would need to know so as to know how to proceed. Also, if you were not married before a Catholic priest or deacon, were you or your wife married previously and had a civil divorce. This information would help in letting you know how to proceed.

This is our first and only marriage. I’m a practicing Catholic she is not. We were married in a civil ceremony by a pastor from her church. He is not the head pastor but does Bible study at the church that she attends. My wife has no problems validating the marriage in the Church because 1) she knows that it is important to me that we do so and 2) being a former Catholic understands. Hope this helps. God Bless

If that is all there is, I would see no problem whatsoever in having this marriage convalidated. Simply contact your pastor. It should be an easy thing. I had a friend that after I talked to him and his wife, we determined that their marriage of 50 + years was not valid. They contacted their pastor and had the convalidation with their children, grand-children and great-grandchildren in attendance. it was truly beautiful.

see your pastor, he will explain the process and the preparation. since there are too many variables that may apply, or not, to your situation, that is the only way to get an answer that fits your needs.
