Ah, gotcha. This is true, I was not thinking about how much more difficult things will be once children enter the picture.

Now that my husband is in Officer Training to go on and become an Air Force pilot, we’ll finally have the money/stability to start having kids. Hopefully within the next 2 years. Then I’ll get back to ya’ll and let you know how “easy” my marriage is. 🙂

Hey Debora – that’s good news – congrats.

Would you do it all over again and get married and have a family if you went back in time?
Absolutely.
Husbands, what are the things that make you most happy being married to your wife?
Well, I’m spoiled rotten. Really spoiled. She’s really good looking, and has the most ridiculously outgoing and likeable personality of any human being I’ve ever met; she makes Oprah look like an introvert. Beats me why she married me, but I’m not complaining. 🙂
What are some of the things she could do that would make you happier?
Actually, nothing. We have very different personalities, which have caused some conflict. However, our personalities are very complementary, in that she has what I lack and vice versa. Our communication lines are always very open, and over time we have found our balance.

Best of luck with your marriage.

All the best; we’re really happy for you.

I have observed the posts on the family life section generally deal with marriage problems.
My question as my upcoming marriage is drawing closer. Would you do it all over again and get married and have a family if you went back in time?

Curious bride to be:)
I would only go back and get married again if it was to the same woman I am married to now. Not only could I not imagine my life without her, I don’t know if anyone else would have enough patience for the husband I used to be and love me enough to help me become who I am now. I absolutely wouldn’t be interested in trying to start a life with ANYONE else.

If I could go back, I would like to know the things that I know now about how to be a husband, father, and real man so I could make things easier on her. Although, going through tough times sure does make you appreciate it when you *finally *get it right.

As far as things that she does to make me happy…I’d have to say just about everything. She knows what is important to me and tries really hard at those things, even if they don’t come easy for her. She is patient with me and always respects me. She loves me, even when I don’t deserve it. There is really just too much to list…

What could she do more…that’s a tough one after this weekend. She has been lacking in the fried chicken department, but she got that perfected on Sunday. Not much left to improve actually…of course, a few extra kisses here and there never hurt…😃

Great news—congratulations to you both :yup:
You probably don’t think so, but this is actually quite a beautiful love story! The commitment, understanding, and patience on both your parts is astounding. God bless you!
Thanks :o I do think so, actually, and perhaps now you can see why I say our situation is not sad. It’s made all the more amazing because The Husband isn’t Catholic. In his world, it would be perfectly all right for him to divorce me and find a more suitable wife. But he knows it doesn’t work that way for me. Leaving isn’t an option I have, so he doesn’t see that it’s one for him either. More than that, he really seems to want to be nowhere else but where he is. He tells everyone I’m the best thing that ever happened to him. In real life no one but the two of us and my priest know about the vocation error, so by all outward appearances we’re a blissfully married pair.

A few others responded that they would only do this all over again if they could marry the same person. That was my initial response as well, but then I thought how unfair that would be to him. It can’t be easy being married to someone who should be married to Jesus.
I hope you do become a mother though, maybe things will change if/when you do!
Over time, I’ve discovered I have no biological clock. We’ve been married for almost eleven years, and both of us are at a certain age  where we have to consider as real the possibility we may never become parents. That prospect does not fill me with anxiety. I’d joyfully welcome offspring but am not desperate to have them. If it happens, it happens. If not, then God must intend for us to accomplish other things. 🙂
