Is it possible for a Catholic and a non-Catholic to be married by a Priest?

My mother told me that my father and her were married in a Catholic Church by a Priest. This marriage took place in 1972. She said that she had to sign some documents.

There are other things surrounding this issue that she told me that are quite disturbing to me. All in all I was not raised in the Catholic church nor did my father practice it.

She was quite upset and said some things when I told her I was looking into Catholicism.

Hi Truthseeker,

A Catholic and a non-Catholic can be married in the Catholic Church with the permission of the local bishop. The Catholic party must promise to try and bring up the children in the Catholic faith, and the non-Catholic party must be made aware of this.

If you are dealing with a particular case, you should see a priest in your local parish.
