Married Seniors and Sex

It’s amazing to me the number of detailed posts about the explicit details of sex, between married people no less. When posters aren’t agonizing over the minute details of sin, they’re discussing the minute details of sex. Some stereotypes exist for a reason…

As a female, who has female friends, after a certain age, it supposedly HURTS way too much to complete the act.

In more blunt language, menopause causes atrophy.

Therefore, these women and their husbands please each other “in other ways.”

(I’m single/celibate, so I wouldn’t know directly!)
I married and a senior and married what you are claiming is simply not true

Just because 1 or 2 of your friends are seniors who think it hurts does NOT mean all seniors have the same experience. If a senior woman does not let the man complete the act in the Godly ordered way, then yes it is a sin. However there is nothing stopping married seniors from having appropriate relations

That may be an issue for some, but far from universal. There’s a difference between increased risk for something due to age and actually having it. It’s not inevitable. Every person and situation is different.

One of the arguments against same sex “marriage” has always been that same sex couples cannot produce children. SSM supporters will counter-argue that senior citizens cannot produce children either, but they are allowed to marry. How is this different?
Well, first off, you can not expect married people who have reach the stage in life where they no longer can have kids to divorce. How ridiculous would that be?

Secondly, from a Catholic perspective, God created sex to be shared between a man and a woman. God also created women to have a limit of their child bearing years. There for an older women having relations with her husband is not going against anything God has created

It does hurt some women, of all ages. Often virgins will hurt for a while for the first few weeks or so, as well as those women who don’t produce enough natural arousal fluid. This latter can often occur after menopause or a hysterectomy. Often an over the counter lubricant solves this problem just fine. Medical treatments are also allowed by the church to help minimize this pain if lubricants don’t do the job. So most of the time the pain is lessened or mitigated and relations can continue. Those who have medical conditions, such as Endometriosis can have moderate to severe pain with intercourse. They will have to postpone relations from time to time when the pain is severe, the husband will do this out of concern and respect for his wife, but with medical help it’s usually not necessary to have permanent abstinence.
